The 987C Cayman has only been around for ONE generation. The Boxster just now for three(986,987 and now 9Xx).

and from the Porsche press release for those wondering just how much they'll have to save up...

The new Boxster models are expected in U.S. showrooms in early summer 2012. The basic list price iwill be $49,500 for the Boxster and $60,900 for the Boxster S, not including a $950 destination charge.
gotta love they're straight to the point not yanking your chain on pricing like someone else

Really? You seem to know more about Porsches than me but I SWEAR I saw Jeremy Clarkson do a comparo on the 1st gen and 2nd gen Caymans last night. He made it a point that all body panels were redone but the 2 Caymans looked strikingly similar. And the performance numbers were a smidgen better but essentially the same. What are those 9xx numbers? Maybe your definition of "generation" is different than mine.

Just looked it up on wikipedia: 2005 was 1st gen, 2009 was 2nd gen.

those numbers are the chassis code designations that separate one generation from another, kinda like how "AS1" is used to specify the FR-S/BRZ/86/GT86. another example would be the Mercedes Benz S-class; the current model is the W221 ('06-'12), the W220 ('99-'05).

nope. '05 was the release of the Cayman, ,09' was the mid life refresh.

It is perfect in/out. But I don't like convertibles, so I look foward to the Cayman. When my AS1 becomes a racecar, I'll need some road car. I'd like something among these: BMW 2 Series Coupé F22, BMW M3 F80, Porsche Cayman 981, Nissan GT-R MY2013 or Lexus SC if it comes.

Glad the S doesn't yet have the 2.5l H4 Turbo with 360 PS. But who knows, it could maybe be a new Boxter Turbo, above the Boxter S like it is with the 911.
