Does the STI version come without crickets? If so... I might trade up.

Remember how last year, they were swearing all over the interment and magazine articles how a turbo charged STI BRZ was coming? Most of us with common sense knew that wasn't true, not for this year at least. Same here, a '14 facelift seems silly. A '15 facelift however, will seem likely, if they were another car company. But knowing Subaru and Toyota, I don't think we will see "major" facelifts until sales plateau, which won't happen in the next 2 years for sure. In my opinion, another rumor that doesn't make sense. |

Hell, the insurance jump alone would prevent me from considering the tS. Unless it has a turbo or supercharger, I'm not interested in trading up. The base BRZ handles beautifully and only needs tires (maybe a front sway) to keep up with most other cars around an autocross circuit. |

Reminds me a lot of the Mugen Civic Si... 30k for a Civic Si with a slightly stiffer suspension and an under-body spoiler? No thanks. Which brings up another good point relating to the Mugen Si, if the tS does come to the US, you better keep that thing locked up at night.

A $40k dollar Paper Weight in hopes that it will be a collectors item in a few decades is about the only investment suitable for this.

Regardless, you are still over that $30K threshold and your points are still spot on. This is one of the reasons I bought the car. I wanted a new sports car, needed a back seat for a DD, AND wanted to stay under 30K. Add in the incredible handling and sharp styling of the BRZ and I was sold.

I think we're all jumping the gun a little too quickly here, let's think about this. A "fully loaded" BRZ equivalent to a USDM Limited in Japan is probably close to maybe 35k USD in Japan versus the 28k USD that we are aware of. The prices that we pay in the US are never a direct translation of the price in Japan. Between 35k USD and 40k USD in the Japanese market, it's only an additional 5k for Japanese consumers for a bunch of STI parts not to mention a redesigned interior. Though it won't be coming to the US market, if it was, it would definitely be priced closer to 32k to 33k, which would be about the same 5k difference versus a USDM Limited model. And that's assuming they would even charge the same amount here as in Japan.
Who else paid 700$ for that piece of plastic rear diffuser and 100$ for the chrome fender trim? I'm sure 5k is worth all those additional parts even minus a turbo. |
