Contacted SOA about getting the chirping, stating I did not have the intention of getting the fuel pump replaced until there was a final fix for it. They instructed me to bring it into the dealership to make sure nothing else was going on. Dealer tech recommended a HPFP change as he has done 5 of them and has not had anyone come back with the chirping problem. New fuel pump ordered, we'll see what happens. I'm only going to go for the replacement process once.

Holy crap, 50 dollars? I have not spent over 44 to fill up but then again I am in Nebraska.

Is this the crickets everyone talks about? It sounds like a normal engine to me. My car by the way.

Just wanted to report that I have about 3600 miles. chirping on and off.

AND I have noticed that if I gas up 91 w/o ethanol I never hear/have any chirping of any kind. and if I gas up 93 with ethanol, after maybe 20-30 miles, the chirping is there again and it's just really annoying. Tested it on 2 other FRS's and the exact same symptoms. So I figure it was a ethanol related issue. afaik, it doesn't affect performance or drive-ability yet.

That's typical direct injection noise. Every DI engine I've heard sounds like a sewing machine, at various volume levels.

I love the idea of hydrogen as a fuel, the only reason it is not viable at the moment is because it takes more energy to produce H2 than you get out of it. I also love the idea of perpetual motion machines. Unfortunately for all of us, Conservation of Energy is a law, not some crackpot idea.

Its been years since I found out about this and my stuff was in french so Im sorry I couldent find a video in english but its subbed XD.

Basically what it says is it takes just a few days to create fossil fuels using this technique.

Wait until the first really viable diesel sports car comes out, you think complaints about chirps are annoying

Oh no my car sounds like a truck! Go cry in the corner with 240sx owners.
that's not all bad idea lol, I read an article some 3-4 years ago and the guy they were interviewing was saying hes using diesel engines for his race cars and one of the advantages of diesel according to him was no octane! so basically he used standard pump fuel to fill up his 700hp car!

That`s not nothing !!

They are putting a lot of energy in, mostly from the Sun. But you could say the same thing about solar panels (photovoltaic cells). Hydrogen fuel is the same. They have shown you can make it using pond scum, which of course uses the sunlight. All three of those processes take a lot of money for the amount of energy you get out of them and thus are not viable replacements for fossil fuels at the moment.

One day we will have to go to one of those processes or hopefully an even better and more efficient process. At the moment though, those are all novelty technologies, at least until it costs less than pumping oil out of the ground.

And let's all just hope we don't have to move to one of these alternative energy sources too soon because the cost to fill up our cars, with whatever does go into them at that point, is going to be much more expensive.

On my old BMW 135i, they had a bunch of HPFP failures which were replaced under warranty.

Somewhere, reading about that, I read about someone recommending to add a capfull of synthetic 2-stroke oil into every tankfull of gas.

I wonder if doing this might lube up the pump on our cars and cure the chirping crickets?

might be worth a try, it certainly won't hurt anything.

I think it's Blendzall that is a castor based octane booster that might kill 2 birds with one stone.
