Here's another convincing coincidence for the ethanol connection for those that need it.

The poll at the start of this thread has 83% with the chirps.

The poll below, asking who uses which fuel, has 82% using E5, E10 or E85

83% chirp
17% don't

29.6 thousand vehicles sold so far,
24.5 thousand chirp
5.1 thousand are quiet

All I'm saying is that ethanol isn't the magic bullet you claim it to be.

Edit: Here's another 9 users with and without ethanol fuel countering your claim.

Sorry, none of that changes the fact that the majority of people who try E0 find their chirps gone.

It doesn't work for some, but it does work for most you have tried it. I never said it was a "magic bullet" but clearly its more effective than having the pump changed or whining about it.

Nope, now that Skullworks took a pump apart and gave his ESTIMATION of what was causing it, all evidence that doesn't support his theory gets thrown out the window.

I just wanted to report that after having my High Pressure Fuel Pump changed out (1-1/2 weeks ago) I have not had any chirping. However, as a just in case measure I have been adding "Lucas Oil" to my gas as a lubricating measure. I do not have "pure" gas in my area to test a gas only solution like some of you. If the chirping comes back regardless of the fact that I am using Lucas Oil I'll try adding 2 ounces of 2-cycle oil to my gas as reported in another thread to see if that will lubricate the washer that was reported to be the cause of our noisy problems.

Hopefully, Toyota/Scion/Subaru will pay attention to our reports and come up with a real "Mechanical" solution to our problems.

I've had my BRZ for one full week now. Almost 500 highway miles later, and the chirp set in on the last 5 minutes of my drive. I was at a stop light and noticed a change in the sound of the car. I put my window down to get a better listen (96 degrees outside) and immediately recognized it as the famous chirp I had heard on a BRZ that had been on the lot of the dealer I test drove the car at. It's quite apparent at this point. I've filled up with 93 with less than 10% ethanol, but I don't know what was filled when I drove off the lot. Granted, the chirp started after I was 3/4 the way through my tank of 93 that I put in it.

I would like to note that just because the gas station doesn't have the placard that says it contains ethanol doesn't mean it is actually ethanol-free. Gas stations in a handful of states (CA included) do not have to label that their gas contains ethanol. In most other states, gas stations only have to label ethanol content once there is a certain percentage.

In other words, some of the people that are having the crickets on "ethanol-free" gas could still be getting gas with ethanol in it, it just isn't labelled because they don't have to label it.

If you aren't filling up at a station that says in huge print "100% ethanol free gas" or "No ethanol in our gas" or etc, then you are most likely getting some ethanol content in your gas.

More info on the state laws here: http://www.fuel-testers.com/state_gu...anol_laws.html

For the record the place where I get ethanol free gas has huge signs stating so and the pumps are labeled. Finally it's listed on the ethanol free gas website. So unless there is one hell of a rouse going on, it's ethanol free. Still have the cricket sound here.

I've dealt with this chirping noise for some time as well. I've done the proper thing though and have it addressed, and hopefully everyone on here will do the same thing. By Taking the car into toyota and have the part replaced(high fuel pressure pump #SU003-00328). This part wont fix the vehicle though, because all they do is put in a new pump, not changed in any way. As toyota has no actual fix for it yet.
Then after a few hundred miles of break in it then began to chirp once more(yes all the while i fill it with 93)
Its often questioned if its the fuel doing this. The answer is no, its a mechanism in the part causing the chirp so says the master mechanic that replaced the part in the first place. If this is happening to you don't hesitate to take it in, it only prolongs the importance of toyota to fix the vehicle.

Which is sad because I've demonstrated E0 removing the chirp over and over again.

I totally agree with you about taking it in and complaining until they get a fix.
Could you ask the master mechanic to get one of the HP pumps they supply to the countries where they don't get the chirp? The same countries where ethanol is almost unheard of but that must be a coincidence.

I find that many places will only have one grade as E0 and the rest is E10.

That could be your issue. You might ask them if all grades are E0. You could be getting a bit of the E10 gas in with your E0 fill up if so.
