Just so that there is no confusion....

Actually, we have recommended the W6 for our enclosures, the W7 is too deep for our enclosures and requires quite a bit more airspace.

You can also get one of these:

There is a coupon code.

Depending on how much bass you are looking for you can also do something like this, or this:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Rockford-Fosgate-R2S-1X10-10-Inch-Enclosure/dp/B0068XYNH4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375129431&sr=8-1&keywords=rockford+fosgate+shallow"]Amazon.com: Rockford Fosgate R2S-1X10 Prime R2S Single 10-Inch Shallow Loaded Enclosure: Car Electronics[/ame]

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-SWX251-Subwoofer-Enclosure-Watts/dp/B004HW6F9M/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1375129454&sr =1-6&keywords=pioneer+shallow+mount+subwoofer+10"]Amazon.com: Pioneer TS-SWX251 10" Flat Subwoofer with Enclosure 800 Watts: Electronics[/ame]

My understanding is the stock crossover in the BRZ (not sure about the FR-S) has filters set to send most of the bass to the 6.5" door woofers and some folks mentioned they did not get the most out of a sub until they used a multichannel amp/different crossovers and defeated the local crossovers. There is no easy way to default the current crossover settings in the head unit. I am not sure as I am replacing my stock speakers, and adding a 5 channel amp to power them and will use new crossovers.

The only reason to have two subs is to cover the full dynamic range from 40-120hz. IMO anything over 300W is overkill for such a small car. I'm running a PBR300X1 Rockford Fosgate amp and their slim 10" and it covers most of the upper range bass, but cuts out if there is any deep LFO. With my windows rolled up and doors closed, you wouldn't even know there is some pretty loud bass firing away in the car. Best of all, that combo doesn't take up much space in the trunk.

I listen to a lot of electronic music and simply adding a 300W 10" to the stock BRZ helps balance out the audio, but it also reveals just how limited the stock speakers are. I'll eventually add the PBR300X4 and replace the speakers with high quality components.

Muliple subs will increase SPL, but won't give you deeper bass. If you want a sub that can play lower, that is strictly dependent on:

- driver
- amplifier
- box

The lower you go, the more expensive it gets unless you have a massive box in your trunk

One 10 inch pioneer will do the job just fine. I've never used one of these enclosures, so I can't speak on that. But I have a pioneer 12 running at 200w with the entire car raammatted, and i still feel like it is too much. I have an lc2 line out, PA bass driver, and 1 farad cap (useless) on my setup. I ran the sub at 8ohm to cut the load, and it still hits HARD. If you put a w7 in your car, I promise you that your rear view mirror will fall off first, followed by your windshield. I had an old mofo 12 (not the mofox) running at 800w on 1ohm on my old Thunderbird that I put in my BRZ as an experiment, and trust me it was a rattle-fest.

Two points: These cars come with shitty/no sound deadening, and the car itself has small airspace. So unless you put out some serious cash for deadening, and dislike your eardrums, stick with a light 10 or 12. You'll be happy with the sound, and you'll have trunk space too!

I'm not sure about your budget or the space availability in your trunk, but filling up the trunk with subwoofer and amp is just not practical at all. You may need to fold the seat and carry something that is long, who knows. 8" sub that I got really does more than I expected. If you want to blow your ear drums, fill up the trunk.

I should have specified two subs are only worthwhile if you're running different sizes and a 2-channel amp to split the frequencies. Even with a high-end 12 and expensive 500W amp, I noticed it cut out at the higher ranges.

If you want crazy LFO, get a 15. If you want reasonable daily driver bass that'll cover most songs, my slim 300w 10 setup (~80hz) seems to handle it just fine in my BRZ. I think my ideal setup would be a PBR300x2 or adding a PBR500x1 and putting a 12 in to cover the lower stuff. 40-60hz for the 12 and 80-120hz for the 10. Better components in the rest of the car would handle anything over 120. At that point, I'd need to do some custom enclosures on the sides, because putting anything up against the rear seats wastes a TON of space. As-is, I can just barely fit a carry-on bag with my trunk organizer and sub.

Totally agree with you. I am going with a shallow 10" sub just because I want a small enclosure that allows me to keep most of my trunk space and also allows me to easily remove the sub when I track the car. I love bass for my home theater, I have four subs that will play flat to about 10hz, but I just don't need anything like that in my car. I am not into dupstep, etc and most of the bass I listen to in music occurs in the 40-80hz range.

I would take a TC Sounds sub over JL Audio:

I have heard an 18" Ultra with a high powered amp and it blew me away.

I couldn't agree more. My 10W7 is perfect, yea it takes up some space, but I can still squeeze some groceries on the side Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375207555.478729.jpg

1 JL W7 is better than some 2 12in configurations. Someone with more audio experience please chime in?
