exactly....... 1800 or 1400 or what ever they want for that is crazzzzzzy.

and im sure the p&p tb will perform just as good. not to mention that cool ass sound of air being sucked into the intake. my explorer sounded sweet when u hit the throttle

It's already been said in this thread, and other threads as well, but the stock TB is already very large for the size of the engine in these cars. Comparing gains on this car to an SUV from 10+ years ago is useless unfortunately.

I haven't measured mine, but other people are reporting the stock TB is 76mm. Most engines this size run 55-60mm TB's stock, and upgrade to 65mm.

I would bet that even with tune you're looking at 1hp if you're lucky by going to a bigger TB, and it'll be way twitchier at part throttle as well.

I ordered one but ran into trouble hooking up my throttle cable.

The OEM throttle body doesn't restrict airflow already; why fix something that isn't broken? Especially when that "fix" is a universal engine part. Why not get a set of universal camshafts so you can really affect how the engine breathes?

Waiting on the HKSs.
Anyone in particular you recommend?

I'm still waiting on MAP Performance. They were going to rebore a stock TB to 68mm and taper it for $250 (core exchange.) http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...t=52970&page=4

The Cusco TB is crazy priced for no info and the Toda Racing one is also up there In cost vs info. IIRC they are 68mm with a 72mm tapered leading edge. There was also another I think by Revo-Tune that included a TB Spacer which was needed because of a 70mm large bore tapering. I think the general census with the TB space was it negativly effecting throttle response though... Can't go much bigger though as the coolant runs through the TB though it is simple to modify it to not.

I'd say it's safe to assume you'll throw a CEL if you modify your TB. These engines seem pretty sensitive to their air/fuel mixture. If you have a way to tune it, I'd say go for it man

It says you have to use their Intake manifold for the TB to work, but I don't see a intake manifold anywhere on their site for the 86.

That's because it's a universal part. It also has testimonials by Evo owners.

"Will not work with factory intake manifold. Must purchase a Skunk2 Ultra Series Intake Manifold for this to fit."

Its not universal. Why would they even list it under the FRS section?

The one linked is universal and it is also cable operated so won't work without DBW setup. You would probably have to go with an aftermarket ECU to get it too work. The Cusco and Toda are modified stock units so are plug and play and won't change things enough to throw a CEL. On a stock car there probably isn't much power to be had from a larger TB. Your money is better spent on headers or a tune.
