I would wait on anything "ecoboost". They are having some issues.

I was going to buy ether the BRZ or ST. The only reasons to buy a ST over a twins is useable back seats. Its not that much faster and will not get better MPG. And there is the smile the BRZ puts on my face every day. As a former owner of a 2002 WRX, i have pushed the BRZ to the WRX limits. And have yet to reach the BRZ limits in cornering. BTW, I live in the Sierra Nevada foothils, in know curves.

As a year round DD though I just don't know that it's the most practical choice. It's basically coming down to do I use my head or my heart when I pick between the two.
Head or heart only way for a gearhead

This friend who test drove the Focus ST said it's too harsh for his baby and the BRZ is softer. The seating position is also much higher. If you care about those things, then a test drive will let you know which one you like better.

I did that test drive this past weekend. While the Focus had major points for smooth power delivery, the steering felt very artificial, and the ride quality was rubbish. But man, that car did have some major pull. However, I ended up coming away with a BRZ after seeing the far more complaint (sophisticated?) suspension and vastly superior steering feel.

It's end-of-year closeout. Virtually every car on the market does the same thing -- hence why you can get a BRZ now for damn near $5-10K less than what others were paying just a few months ago with the dealer markups.

Come this time next year the Fiesta ST will likely be getting the same markdowns. It doesn't say anything about the car, it's simply a financial statement that one is willing to take the depreciation hit up front rather than later on down the road. Automakers just price in the fact that the car you're driving off the lot today will forever and always be worth less than the 2014 that you could buy tomorrow.

Besides, the ST1 FST sucks. It takes some of the best things the FST has going for it over the competition (most awesome seats on the market, interior upgrades, a great-for-OEM sound system, and various technologies) and yanks them off -- if I'm gonna drive something that looks like an econobox I want it to at least be super-nice on the inside. Now the $25K you can get thesedays for a fully-loaded ST3, now that's a killer deal. I still went with the slightly-more-expensize BRZ though, despite being literally seconds away from buying the FST. I had literally typed up the email to the salesman and before I hit send took one more look at the BRZ and convinced myself that I needed to find some way to drive one (in DFW, they almost all go straight to orders never to inventory).

Yep and in a year of less Fiesta ST's will be going for like $15-16K with incentives and markdowns. That is one thing about buying a Ford )or GM/Chrysler) that many people don't consider, they usually depreciate much faster than Japanese brands like Toyota, Subaru, and Honda.

If she's not doing trackdays and wants to haul friends, get the Focus. A 4-door hatch is much more practical as a daily driver. I only bought the BRZ because my wife and I have an STI and Prius to cover AX/RX and MPG. If she's looking at Ford, she might also want to check out the Fiesta ST. It would probably get better mileage than the Focus.

Definitely test drive before buying and do your research. Don't let dealers pressure her into a HORRIBLE financing deal. The best thing you can do is go along to the dealer with her and be the 'voice of reason' in case the salesman is trying to get her to sign a 10+% financing deal with all of the worthless BS add-ons to jack up the price.

I know things vary by region, but that statement isn't even close to reality here in North Carolina. I just did a 50 mile radius search, here's what I see:

1 BRZ Premium Automatic for sale - $27,365

44 Scions for sale - cheapest one was $25,823, highest was $33,357

Yeah, I find it totally bizarre that the older Civic Si hatchbacks from 2003-2005 still go for well over $10,000 on Auto Trader with nearly 100,000 miles.

[QUOTE=Poogles;752898] my girlfriend keeps reminding me that the FR-S is "stupid" because it doesn't have 4 doors and I can't put our non-existent children in the back. I told her that her opinion doesn't count when it comes to cars. She just bought a new Civic...

Lmao her opinion also doesn't count cause a car isn't a kitchen.
