Handling capabilities are always kept in mind at RS*R for spring-only applications as they are very adamant about function of the suspension from design standpoint. They are a suspension tuning company, not a cosmetic fad sell-and-forget merchandise maker.

So the FRS and BRZ has a different spring rate, to meet and match the individual differences in shock absorber/struts and are not designed for excessive level of drop. Although it isn't nearly as flexible in reaching peak improvements as per design constraints of the OEM shocks as their upper-end Sports-i Coil-over system, they are mildly stiffer than stock to maintain proper stroke range and to meet those on a more strict budget on modifications.

The Tarmac 0's are only height adjustable and I only plan on going down about 25mm (20 initially while it settles). Should cover most of the wheel gap on 18's. 280/280 spring rates. Feels like a very nice balance all around. Last thing I want to do is slam the car and kill the performance.

Interested to see how 18X9.5's actually handle after this upgrade. The 245/35's up front are extremely close to the stock spring because its so wide. People will probably argue 18X9.5 up front is too wide. I've been having a blast so far, but I'm also not pushing it extremely hard because I don't want it to rub on a very hard corner without coilovers.

Ultimately, my car is a DD, cars and coffee, and spirited driver car. I aim for a little bit of everything in each upgrade. If I was purely track, I'd be doing 17X8 or 17X9, no doubt. That is something I may consider in the future.

Thanks for this helpful post. I wish I would have read this earlier. Lots of important information.

Same setup here but with meatier tires 255/35. Should receive my tarmacs tomorrow also 280/280. Can't wait, installed the ht auto kit and the lip scrapes on my drive way. It should be interesting once I lower it lol

would you recomend a progressive spring or a linear spring for the track?

Just purchased a set of RS*R Superdown Sus Springs from RS-R USA your (Moto's) recommendation. I'll need to liquidate a new set of Tein S-Techs that are also on the way. Will have the RS*Rs installed this weekend and update (been procrastinating a build thread, might as well do it). RS-R's service was fast and friendly. Very smooth transaction so far. Thanks Moto.

Both worked really well at FULL SOFT setting on both ends, even with track radials like the Azenis RT615K. So going stiffer is only needed perhaps, to compensate for wear of the dampers, and also to settle the car at really high speed tracks where stability is in order over quick vector changes.

Both do come at a price of nearly $2000 but with the ability to be 30mm lower, and unlike lowering springs on stock shocks, that allow maybe 20mm max on short rear shocks of the FRS/BRZ, the fully-tapped coilovers can go a full 35mm lower with all of the original stroke range, and has adjustability to actually make the ride more comfortable with more sophisticated valving that is not cost-constrained like the stock shocks.

So if budget is the key, Racecomp's 20mm drop springs are really ideal.

If ride qualities of the stock is a bit harsh for you, you can use either of the more expensive setup to improve that while retaining all the of the nice handling capability with much lower height around 30~35mm drop.

I've also found that 20mm drop is ideal for dynamic alignment (as designed), and 35mm still retaining pretty good alignment as well.
If I lowered a car like this, it would almost certainly scrape going in and out of my driveway. I've had Azenis on a different car, and while they are fun, I have no desire to buy tires that need replacing every 3000 miles again.
I like the thought of being able to make the ride even more comfortable without hurting the handling, and if I could improve the handling at the same time (hard to imagine making this car handle noticeably better, though), even better.
So with a mid-range budget (more than just a set of bargain springs but not race coilovers) what would be a good approach to this suspension? What tires would you recommend for replacing the stockers when the time comes?
I'm also going to be bumping up the power a bit (again not race level but certainly good for the street). Do power increases change your recommendations at all?
This is going to be just for winding back roads, although it might see one track day as a novice just to see what it's like.

RS*R Superdown Sus

True to their word, RS*R USA had these ready for pickup today. Front and Rear kit. Great group of guys also had a very familiar FRS on their dyno with Innovative kit. Will post the rest of this in a build thread as to not
