So you know about why the FRS/BRZ, yet you're asking why there's two of these cars?

Funny guy.

I dunno - I miss the sound of the inline 4 in my Celica (just the GT, not even the VVTL-i GT-S), and kinda find the boxer sound unattractive... But 200hp from 2.0L N/A without lift technologies (which is what the RSX-S and Celica GT-S used) seems pretty impressive to me.

But in defense of the FA20, on downshifts, the boxer "bark" sounds awesome.

FWIW, I didn't think I'd care so much about the interior bits, but I do enjoy the climate control and alcantara in the Limited...

Just wish I had more storage space for things like sunglasses, cellphones, and some properly-designed cupholders

That's like asking why Chevy and Cadillac or why Ford and Lincoln...it's about market positioning and brand research. Essentially there are two so that corporations can "play" you.

When these cars were first available people usually bought whatever one they could find now it's more about choice. Pick the one that best fits your needs, most people have tried both, you end up drawn to one or the other either by sales experience or package options or color.

Your assuming the camera and ground are level for the length of both cars...

The vtec "sound" you sound like a teenager talking about vtec, its just the sound of the intake noise...chevys sound different the ford...its harmonics not vtec making any sound.

Think you need to use the search function more instead of making a new thread for the same stuff. In the time you posted this you would have found plenty of information regarding the differences in the two cars. I dont know why people need to be spoon fed on the internet instead of using the "easy button" post new thread click advanced search and start learning how to feed yourself.

Still curious to see official ground clearance numbers of both the FR-S/BRZ. But it makes sense that the FR-S has allowances to be lower because all the published marketing material I've seen say it has stiffer struts (though a vendor on this forum measured the dampening to be the same as the BRZ). FR-S rear spring rate is stiffer than BRZ and FR-S front spring rate is softer than BRZ. Softer spring rate in front could mean the FR-S front settles a little lower.

Don't forget there's also a model that carries the Toyota badge. That makes three.

Theoretically, the FRS sits lower at the front and higher in the back when compared with the BRZ due to the spring rate differences. In reality, they're going to look the same to 99.999999% of the population. Nothing to get worked up over.

Technically a VTEC engine at high rpm will sound "different" than a non VTEC engine. The VTEC system switches to longer duration valve openings and valve overlap at high rpm to increase breathing. This makes the engine sound differently. Have you driven a DOHC VTEC equipped engine that redlines at 8000rpm+? The exhaust (and intake) notes change dramatically at the cam switch over.

The variable valve timing used by the FA20 is not comparable to any DOHC VTEC system, as has already been stated. The FRS is not lower to the ground than the BRZ. The BRZ Limited seats aren't "slippery" since leather is only on the bolsters. Your ass, legs, back are all on alcantara.

If the FRS was available with HIDs then I probably would have bought one. But it wasn't when I was in the market so I went with the BRZ. I love the keyless entry, heated seats and LED DRLs (though in general I'm dislike DRLs). I couldn't care less about the fancy stereo/nav unit (hate it actually), didn't care about leather seats and I'm indifferent to the bumper designs.

Also, if you feel a VTEC "kick" that gives you an instant increase in power, that just means the car is not tuned properly. I love people who put in VTEC controllers just to feel a better "VTEC kick" or to activate it as soon as possible when its actually just making them slower
