An important moment in the build of my car has arrived: date booked at the body shop for the final body work and paint, dropping the car off at the end of the month. Expect glossy black goodness.

I'll make sure I can take pictures of the body work along the way, maybe stop by the body shop every now and then or have them send me pictures. So nothing really to post yet, but I'm really excited, and there will soon be a supercharged GT-S driving the streets of Calgary. Prepare your body.

Stopped by the body shop today and they've got things under control. I am very happy with the quality of work being done. I had hoped that it might be a little further along by now, but it's not a priority job for them. I'd like to drive it soon though, but that goes without saying I think.

Quarter removed, wheel well housing removed and in the process of being reinstalled. Inner rocker panel metal cut out and being repaired.

Thanks so much!

I hope my build inspires others to keep their old cars on the road!

Wow way to bring this car back from the dead, I applaud your dedication. It's going to be amazing when you're finally done.

Just for my own personal curiosity, why did you go with the 4A-GZE instead of the more powerful (at least on paper) 20v 4A-GE?

Not sure when the 20V became more powerful on paper (it isn't, haha -- unless you are referring to the one in the MR2, which is not what I used), but the main reason I went with the 4A-GZE is torque and because it looks more period correct in the car. It's a more stock-looking swap versus the 20V with it's ITB's and required water rerouting, etc. (The 4A-GZE has 165hp in AE92 form, the 20V had 160hp in silvertop and 165hp in blacktop. Mine has oodles more torque from no rpms all the way up. It's less responsive, but I'd kill a stock 20V powered car with my GZE.)

Thanks so much. I'm always glad that people appreciate what I've done with the car, even though I did it for myself more than anyone.

Stopped by the body shop once again today, the left-hand quarter panel is now installed on the car, mostly. Still some welds to clean up along with seam sealer and a bunch of other body shop things, but it looks amazing. Right-hand quarter panel and wheel housing removed, close-up of the rocker rust underneath the quarter panel. The 80's will live on.

Suck on that mother nature, your rust won't ruin my dreams!

This is such a cool build! Really motivating! I'd love to have a quarter century old Japanese car to tinker on. Just think in another 10-15 years, this car will be a classic!

People like to ask me about doing something like this again, or doing something like this themselves, etc. What I want to say is that it's going to take a lot of money and dedication, and if you really want to do it, you're going to need to buy something newer.

If you want to start at the same point I did, you're going to need to buy something from around 94-96 or so to get any kind of good parts availability. There are several advantages to buying from this time period, namely that rust coatings and metal quality had progressed considerably by then. Disadvantages? It's got to be a car from the mid-90's, so it's just not the same.

Stopped by the body shop again today and wow, it looks like a car again! Significantly more work done than I was expecting based on the last time I saw it a couple weeks ago. Primer in the next day or two and then off to paint after that. Should be done next week?!?! Crazy!
