I tried H9s back in 2008 (XB) but when one of them burned out after only a few months I switched to PnP HIDs. I'll never go back to H9s. IIRC H11 is ~1300 lumens, H9 is ~2000 lumens and 35W 5000k HID is ~3000 lumens. FWIW.
BTW, the "chumps" with the blinding HIDs are most likely running them in non-projector style lamp housings. Headlamp housings designed for axial filament bulbs like the H11 are well suited for HIDs. Not perfect or as good as HID-specific housings but honestly, I never get flashed and I've been running HIDs in H11 housings for 7 years now. YMMV. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002GZ6TM0/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]Amazon.com: Halo Automotive Platinum White H9 (12v 65w) Bulb - Twin Pack: Automotive[/ame]
These are the bulbs I put in my low beam projectors. I think they look as white as possible and as close as possible to HIDs without being Hids. The wiring was cool to the touch, but the bulb at the connector was pretty warm, almost hot to the touch. This was just after about a 30 min drive on the freeway with a 5-10 min at rest. Joined the forum specifically to say thanks for the DIY! It was a super easy install and has made a noticeable difference at night.
Only challenging part was finding a small enough pair of needle nose pliers to delete the top plastic tab...I ended up heating up a flat head screwdriver and melting it smooth instead. Worked like a charm! Thanks again. |

Just wanted to bring this back from the dead. I'm a newb when it comes to lighting. I was researching HID's and came accross this thread. I want better lighting and for under 20$ bucks this seems too good to be true.
I still don't understand why people choose HID's if this H9 option is so much more economical. Can someone explain? Also one more thing. I want to open my FRS headlights and paint EVERYTHING black. Will this reduce my low beams? And will this help with blacked out section of the high beams too? |
