This design for the compressor only requires two custom parts. The backplate, and the shaft. Everything else is off the shelf parts.

Looks awesome. What will keep the wheel from rubbing against the backing plate?

There's a washer that sits between the hub of the bearing in the backplate and the compressor wheel.

The bearing is basically clamped between the compressor wheel and a lip on the shaft.

Here's a better render of the whole assembly now that I'm on my PC.

You may want to reverse that thread on the shaft.

Good observation. LOL

That's already planned, but since I will be 3D printing the parts for test fit and I don't have any left hand thread nuts laying around I went with righthand for now. It will be left hand thread on the actual prototype.

No it's Rhino CAD. That's just a rendering I did to best show all the parts.

Is there not a more concentric way of mounting the motor than using the studs? Does the motor have some sort of ring on its housing?

I have considered that and haven't come up with anything that didn't make the machining process considerably more complicated. This motor is completely cylindrical, but not all motors are and I want to make the mount as universal as possible. (I already have an Aquastar T20 on order)

I'm not completely satisfied with this mounting solution myself and am very open to suggestions. That goes for everyone and on any other aspect of the design as well.

My goals:

-As few custom parts as possible
-Simplicity in machining the custom parts
-As adaptable to different motor styles/sizes as possible

I also may be making a version for the 25g compressor wheel and housing. As far as I know that should just be a matter of enlarging the recess where the compressor wheel sits in the back plate.
