Seriously. Most college grads I know don't even have money for tomorrow's breakfast let alone a brand new $30k vehicle.

The FR-S has gotten hundreds of awesome awards and recognition this isn't one of the good ones that actually matter.

Its kind of sad how the tone of this thread is how most don't make any money out of college and have loads of student debt. Ahh college was a scam! I have moderate college debt, decent entry level position in the insurance field and while yes I probably shouldn't have bought the FR-S if i didn't now I probably never will in the future.

My college lab partner graduated into college debt and bought a new G37 Coupe in its first MY launch. My college roommate also graduated into college debt and bought a low mileage 3.35i for just over $30k. I couldn't fathom doing that at the time and instead when thru 5 cheaper used cars during the time it took them to pay theirs off. We all graduated from an engineering school. Competitive industry but once you find your niche, it's a good one to be in if you love cars. One of those buddy's went from working for Toyota to eventually Tesla.

The best car for college grads is to keep driving whatever beater you already have until the wheels fall off.
If the choice has to be a new car, then a Fit or Yaris. Having a FR-S right out of school would be phenomenal fun, but let's face it, out of financial reach for the majority of new grads... |

I just graduated in May as well, engineering degree with minimal debit. Second paycheck went straight to getting a BRZ. Its the reason we went to school right? Now to get out of my crappy apartment..

A lot of this depends on perspective and how well can you budget. My field will never pay top dollar, but I love my job field and wouldn't trade it for anything. I had to finance my first year of graduate school on student loans before I landed a job. Between undergrad and grad, I have some serious debt that will take more than a few thousand a year to pay off. I am far below some people that had to take private student loans out. I will be paying for college for the rest of my life so I might as well enjoy the journey.

Everyone's situation is different when it comes to student loan debt. Some people had scholarships. Some people had help from their parents. Some people worked full time and got their degree. Some people joined the military..
Not everyone has excessive debt out of college. I had next to no debt because I had a really good scholarship and also worked 30+ hours a week and also joined the military to pay for advanced education. Sucked, but I refused to have $40-100K worth of debt right out of college. |

So as someone well out of college (seven years), am I supposed to be affording something better? Or just more mature? I bet I'm supposed to be hauling children.
I don't appreciate the modern journalistic approach of aiming consumers in a direction; that isn't information. Also, there have been dozens of articles listing basically the same five cars. Many of them with better titles, writing, and car specs. |

Well not all college degrees are the same... Some degrees will have jobs that pay after college and some not so much.
I chose a field where the job paid decent. I went to community college then transferred to a cheaper state school (prices went up so it's 7k a year now, it also wasn't the best engineering school or the best school in general, but it worked). I have zero debt because the tuition was relatively manageable. I got an FRS a month ago after working 2months after my first job out of college. |

Graduated last year, no debt and got a great job. Have a group at work of new college grads who touge/autoX on the weekends, all of us have similar priced cars (used 370z, used Z4, Gen Coupe) or cheaper second cars (S2K, NB Miata, MR2).
So yeah it is possible, depending on your situation. That being said, I don't agree with this list at all. Not many 20-somethings actually want "fun" cars, they want utility and money savings... |
