My dream would be an SC with NA H8 (FA40). Two FA20 blocks together.

H8? Nice dream, but not gonna happen. If H8 was a good idea, Porsche or Ferrari would of already made one... But instead they were wise & went w V8

Not even that, Ferrari used Flat-12's in their 512's, and early F1 programs. It was a watercooled 3 liter 12 cylinder motor. But a H8 is more than possible. It's making it happen, and a car to provide it. Flat motors sit lower, but they also sit wider. And then you total in development costs. Porsche's today still use a Flat 6... not a V8. The Porsche V8's you see today are Audi motors. Two more cylinders won't hurt from a ideological standing point. But in the end these days it's one thing. Emissions and reliability. |

all i need is a light 6-cylinder, with a pair of turbos(or that new hybrid boost tech Porsche was developing for their touring cars), a Toyota Badge, and the name Supra
and they can sign me up Most likely won't happen infact I'd assume a 95% chance it won't happen but it's good to dream right? |

Yes I know, thank you. Also you have forgotten Testarossa. I didn't say boxer engine was horrible. I love boxer engine w a passion... But reality still sits that H8 wasn't better than V8. If it was both Ferrari & Porsche would of used it. They both used H12 & that's pretty much it. I love to see H8 to come to reality... But that's not gonna happen unless boxer engine technology improve as much as V engine |

Well, there were rumors Porsche would build a new NA H8 for the mid-rear engined Porsche 959, the Ferrari 458 Italia rival, but lately they decided to keep a FI H6, but the last infos are that it won't come that soon and will have to wait for the new R8/Gallardo platform. Also, I am quite sure H engines in all ways better than V engines, but their problem is that the car has to be designed around it, what is not the case of most cars, with exeption of Porsche and Subaru. The reason why Porsche can't use any H8 is mainly because it would be too long for the 911, which is rear engine. The only advantages of V engines are that they are more compact and more practical to work on, especially in racing. And a 90° V8 with flatcrank is still quite perfectly balanced.

Umm... no. A 90 degree V8 with a cross-plane crank is mostly balanced, with a flat crank it has fairly significant second order imbalances. That's why the vast majority of V8's intended for street use have cross-plane cranks (they're much smoother). Flat plane V8's are more suited to race cars, since they have smaller counterweights the crankshaft (and by extension, the engine) can be mounted lower in the car.

I hope this comes out soon with a NA H/R engine and good straight line performance. I would love an SC 500.
