All spectator tracks have dangerous spots, but a novice driver should never be in a position to hit anything. I'd say a solid 90% of the HPDE incidents I see are instructors and advanced solo guys. Novices are never pushing near 10/10ths so incidents are pretty unlikely. Having said that, they are possible of course. So is an accident driving to work. HPDE Insurance for the event is available through Lockton Affinity although Ohio has stupid insurance laws so Lockton is forced to make people buy a mutliple-event package for any track event in Ohio. If you track the car at least 6 times a year it's worth doing so anyways. I blew through a 6 pack in no time and am working on a 9 pack now

^^^ this.

Run groups are:
Novice (instructor required until signoff)
Intermediate (instructor required until signoff)
Advanced (instructors available upon request - good for those guys with a lot of experience but zero Mid Ohio experience)
Instructor

The event is way more than a track day as Austin would agree I'm sure. There's a HUGE social aspect of hanging out with friends from all over that share the same interest, plus the banquet, the raffle prizes, etc.

Here's some pics from last years event by one of the photogs out of Cali (ex-Chicago guy) that shows pretty well that it's not just another track day: http://forums.itrexpo.com/zerothread?id=14477

Oh and we should have a school bus for those who want to drink to and from the banquet. That's organized by one of the participants but it's a blast all by itself If you are offended by drinking (WHEN THE TRACK IS COLD!!!) and people having a BLAST (all the time!) then this won't be your event.

Austin, I'll be at WMHM too just hanging out though

Expo (like WMHM) is way more than a track day. Like Dave said, they are social events. They just happen to be at tracks. You'll meet a ton of great people and have a crap ton of fun...more so than probably any other track day you've been to so long as you embrace the social aspects while at the track and afterwards back at the hotel. If you plan on going, I highly suggest staying at the same hotel everyone else is staying at.

Dave, if you're interested, I may have the need to get my FR-S out to Gingerman for WMHM as I have my s2000 back together again.

You have a few months to fix it, or fly in and drive my car. I'll even add you to the insurance policy

Sounds like a blast, wish I could make it. I feel like I left a lot to be accomplished at Mid-Ohio.

(Plus I love ITRs)

Not determined yet. Last year we were at the splash harbor, not 100% sure this year. The police were less than friendly with our post event drinking last year at the hotel.
