Question Headers?

Those of you with headers when emissions inspections come around what do you guys do? Bolt on the stock ones? Also is there a current header on a market that still gets power gains and is catted and won't cause a CEL? Doubt it but that's a question, also how would you run the headers so it would pass inspection if it didn't have cats would a tune cover all that up?

HKS and FA20 club both have a EL header with catted option.

I think nameless will release a EL header with catted option soon.

The UEL headers are pretty hard to spot unless you're looking. Just have to make sure there is no CEL.
I live in California and bought the car out of state. That means I have to smog it now, and every 2 years henceforth. The real question is whether or not the remaining CAT is sufficient to pass the sniffer.

The key to passing emission testing in most states is to be CEL free. There are 4 ways to do this while running a header.

1: Catted header
2: Mini-cat or spacer on 2nd O2 sensor
3: Relocate 2nd O2 sensor behind 2nd cat
4: ECUtek or BRZedit tune to eliminate CEL

I'm not sure how strict PA is but here in MD I passed 3 times with a turbo and no cats using only a spacer on the 2nd O2 sensor.

Have you had to test already? I'm curious about this since I might be moving to the bay area. I'd love to get headers but the whole emissions check is scaring me.

That's what I was thinking thank you very much for clearing that up, the thing is thats really one of the only ways to get 200 WHP NA so the FRS/BRZ can defend themselves

So in the end the key to 200 whp, is full header-back exhaust, headers, intake, tune

Sadly, that won't be enough to reach 200whp except maybe in ideal conditions on a very generous dyno. You'll also need to run E85 with a E85 tune which should get you the missing 15-20whp. I'm pretty sure that no one has reached 200whp without E85.

All things considered I decided to go with the Innovate SC and pass on the $100 per whp stuff. $3700 for 220whp/193wtq on 93 with stock intake and exhaust.
