I remember reading about the injector seals failing a long time ago, but didn't think much of it, and it came up again recently.

Although these cars were the Nurbring track rental cars, they still get maintained pretty well (probably better than most street cars), yet both of their track cars direct injectors failed.

Its hard to determine, since apparently there are non-reuseable parts when you take the injectors off, and no one wants to take them off just to "check" them.
Another post talking about the DI seal failures.

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36008

And a possible cause for the failure.

Confirmed sofware update for injector seal failure.

It says the Root Cause:
Under certain engine operating conditions, significant increased temperature & cylinder pressure occurs due to combustion knocking.
Combustion knocking occurs only when the following conditions are met:
1. Full engine acceleration, Wide Open Throttle [ON->OFF->ON within 0.6sec] during gear shifting.
2. The above operation occurs when the engine rpm is above 5200rpm. = shifting up rapdily from 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th, 5th to 6th from 7450 rpm. (E.g. shifting from 3rd @ 7450rpm up to 4th finishing @ 5864 rpm)

NOTE: Investigation results revealed that this condition is observed during track usage, and a unique aggresive driving style, not during normal driving.

That last part pisses me off to no end, So running the car up to the factory rev limiter and shifting gears is considered aggressive track driving... sounds like they intend on F'ing people out of the warranty repair of the seals.

163 on a Dyno Dynamics means they must be putting some kind of "correction" into it. Should have had them do the dyno in Shootout mode.

They mentioned that the correction was 300 ft above sea level... when we are really about 30 ft above sea level. I am disappointed that the environmental conditions and correction amount weren't printed on the sheet.

the DI system isn't touched when doing this install. You do have to pull out the port injectors and swap them over to the SC though.

Looking forward to the install @DarrenDriven - I was hoping to have mine installed this past weekend but the SC didn't come so probably this weekend will be install time for me. Injectors/fuel pump should arrive today so I will probably throw the fuel pump in there at some point during the week so I can drive around a few days to make sure its running properly.

The DI fiasco is a lot of noise from a very small margin of users. It's not quite the epidemic they want you to believe it is. There are already cars with 30k+ miles on them and beaten on just as hard as the NB ring cars (broken axle) yet they don't have the issue. There is also no actual failure analysis being done simply fear mongering being done by a loud vocal group that do have the issue. On these forums I've found 35 or so people complaining. This is out of 35k+ cars sold in the US alone. That's a .1% problem. This is by definition making a mountain out of a molehill based on the evidence currently available. There is no point in getting worked up until that .1% rate starts to rise.

Back on topic, looking forward to seeing your progress Darren.
