Pretty common on the track and the street. I shift mid corner all the time, but only at the redline on track. You have to pay attention to weight transfer but it's not that big of a deal with a manual.
I personally love manual transmissions. I enjoy being that much more involved and I don't care about the time/speed I'm losing. From a tech perspective the manual is pointless, but for many drivers out there (obviously not all) the manual transmission is far from pointless.

while i know how to drive stick i'm not sure i want to deal w/ the extra effort. call me lazy, w/e. my personal preference. it would be cool if FHI and/or Toyota came up w/ a super compact flushable dual clutch setup.i

My only gripe is that it is rare to see an oem auto hold power reliably, even in cars that are regarded as high hp kings (supra). My friend's supra is supposedly limited to ~400-450hp due to the weakest link(auto tranny) while the manuals are throwing insane power. I dont know how much power a 6sp auto based on the ISF design will handle, but until proven reliable I am going to assume [manual + power] >> [auto + power]. Of course handling and proper driving are king, but I think both are pretty evenly matched in that category (assuming the auto in manual mode is legit). The manuals are more fun when you get in the zone + more potential fun, while the autos are very convenient and allow for that paddle-shifting compromise that is better than regular autos. Decisions... |

in my experience most of the people i know that drive a third pedal are too afraid to teach anyone on it for the worry of damage to their car. makes sense, but doesn't help the enthusiast crowd any, because at the end of the day it's about numbers, and if not enough sticks are being sold then obviously they're gonna make what's gonna sell. |

I am still going to test the auto and manual before deciding which to buy (assuming the rest of the car is okay) because I dont want to miss out on what could be a good thing because of being close-minded. |

another upshot of owning a stick would be low theft rate for all the losers that feel they need to take what's your but don't know how to drive a stick.

I think the manual will be the base option and an auto will be +$1k. They'll bank on everyone buying the automatic (which always happens), and make mad $. I also have a feeling that it would be easier to resell a sporty car that is a manual because of that increased sportiness.

![]() Part of me doesn't want a GT86 anymore because it seems the majority of people who will be buying one will opt for the automatics, and I don't want to be part of that. It's like, where are the GT86 enthusiasts coming from? Scion tC's and Celicas? Ugh. If this was a new Honda or Mazda rear-driver, I guarantee there wouldn't be so much talk of automatic transmissions. |
