Looking great! My g/f will be out of town quite a bit this month, and so I'm hoping to get to some more meets. Would be happy to meet up and do some photo shoots as well. My camera isn't mindblowing, but definitely nicer than any cell phone and most point-and-shoots.

Kit:
Canon T3
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens
Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens

I have some cheap lighting equipment as well, although we'd need to be somewhere with electrical outlets and/or an inverter.

Also, if we have other photographers here, I would love to learn more. Even though I've been shooting as a hobby for about 6 years, I am very much a novice.

I might try to get a few pictures of my car in front of the fires. At one point I will only be about a mile from the one in Colorado.

Hopefully I get my car in front of the fires instead of my car on fire.

Thanks It was the first lens I bought, in part because it's extremely cheap, and also because I'd been reading that prime lenses are some of the best to learn composition on, since it forces you to move around in order to compose the shot.

Nice! Hard to beat the bang for buck you get with them. I ended up giving my brother the kit lens when he moved back to WA. He'd never owned a DSLR before, and wanted one bad. I didn't need the kit lens anymore since I bought the 28-135mm a month or so earlier, and so I gave it to him so he could just buy the body. In hindsight, he should've bought the kit anyways and sold the kit lens on eBay... oh well!

if you are using a strobe such as a mono light make sure you use a pure sine inverter, as some monolights power supplies can run into issues and possibly be damaged without.

Prime is the way to go for learning & quality. less elements of glass = less distortion = greater quality photo. And not to mention price...

I would go out and shoot more but im a sucker for the heat this year, i never acclimated too much time in doors this year! I really need to take some photos of my own car and i know Keith has been asking me too but i just cant get my self out there.

I have a T1i with the kit lens; how much are those lenses going for on eBay these days? (can't check, blocked at work)

Keep the kit lens, or upgrade to a tamron 17-50. The kit really isnt that bad at smaller apertures. Having IS has many uses!

I have no idea what that is but will keep it in mind! The lights I have are [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UOOTCS/"]from this lighting kit[/ame]. They are not very powerful, but work well enough in a pinch.

I don't blame you. I hate Arizona for about eight months of the year. I would go back to Washington, but I have too much going for me here. I haven't acclimated myself, but I just end up dealing with it the best I can. I really enjoy photography, and really enjoy my car, so that will get me out there :P

Not to mention the fastest lens in your collection and generally have the ability to take better quality photos than zoom.
