Guys I think what he meant was since the car has a dead battery the keyless entry system is not working which means he can't open the hood because the release is inside the car. So, the trunk trick will do this for you OP.

Got to admit that the location of the key had me looking for a bit when I went looking
I have not actually tried to engage the key in that awkward spot. Looks like it would be more convenient to just get a crow-bar and pry the damn thing open. |
