I consider myself an average autoxer. My results are usually around the top quarter in local regions, but probably in the bottom half of similarly prepped cars. My advantages relative to the average driver at our local events are tires and experience, but I don't have a lot of natural skill. On a course I can easily identify places where I'm leaving time on the table but can't perform, and I'm sure there are plenty of other places I'm leaving time that I can't identify.
3.5. But we need to make room on the scale to differentiate between clueless daily drivers and [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xz2r3Un9CE]horrible daily drivers[/ame].

I suppose that puts me somewhere in the 4 range, in a sprint car (avatar). With the FRS, I guess I fit into the latter description of the 3 category since I can't afford to frequent the track lol.

Based on that chart I would consider myself a solid 4. I autoxed for years and always did well in my region. Now I've moved on to HPDEs and while I'm usually one of the faster drivers at these events I just can't afford to do them that often. With a bigger budget for more track time I definitely think I could be a 5.
And with more money and time to train/practice I think a 6 is within my natural talent ability. But that's it, no point in kidding myself beyond that

On this scale..i would put myself at a 3. I feel i am talented but havent had a chance to hone my skill to see how good i actually am. I am working on that..having done 2 HPDE weekends now..maybe i can move up in the future

Yeah high power cars can be really hard to drive fast without some time behind the wheel to work the speed and confidence up. Driving them can be a sloppy mess of oversteer, understeer, and hair raising moments so it's very hard to run a clean line and also go fast. So far taking it easy even in my boosted FRS gets me much closer to my peak lap time than taking it easy in my Unlimited STi. I really have to put the big boy pants on to go fast in that car ![]() I think humility and respecting the people or the cars that beat you is an important part of stiving to go faster. People that only make excuses for loosing don't really posses the mental capacity to realize they aren't God's gift to the world of driving and it's not possible they got beat unless their competitors are cheating. LOL! |

It's actually fun and beneficial to my driving to actually race a slower car (na frs) without a lot of setup because it teaches you again to maximize every inch of the track, to hit your line perfectly, to maximize how long you are on the throttle, and reduce the time you are going slow. On a high power car with lots of setup you often spend so much time "fixing" the car to handle with gobs of hp and not enough time just improving your driving lap. |

I've been autocrossing on and off for 35 years. In my prime I was probably a 4.5. As of lately probably a 4. Like any sport to be at the top of your game you have to run as many events as possible to stay sharp. I realize I am not even close to top level talent.
