For all you automatic-goers, if you had a black automatic '97 Supra twin-turbo 25th Anniversary Edition completely stock with 95k miles, would you sell it for the FR-S/BRZ or keep it?

To whomever brought it up: The 7AT for the 370Z also rev matches on downshifts.
Uh huh. I guess so is every electric appliance in one's home, the remote control for the television, an electric or gas stove, etc. You gotta be totally lazy to use any of this stuff. You know what industrious people do? They take their clothes down to the lake with a washboard so they can experience all the sublime delights of getting their underwear clean the way god intended. You don't experience that kind of man-clothes bond with an automatic washing machine. Some of you gents sound a bit like cranks on this issue

If they offered a dual clutch tranny maybe i'll go for that, I prefer the traditional 6 speed close ratio gear box but if im in a time attack track day and the name of the game is beating the other guys best time not who has the most fun car to drive sure ill go for a dual clutch.

For those complaining about hills, what I have done in the past is stop then roll back hopefully oncoming traffic hasn't stopped yet. Then edge forward prior to the light turning green. The few hills I have to deal with around my neck of the woods are dominated by the slushboxes. However in regards to this topic Auto vs Manual, with the newer transmissions (dual clutches and rev matching etc) I don't care if the newer tranny is faster I love to drive a manual. I learned how to drive stick shift in an 1950 era Duece and a half... Took both feet and all my body weight to push the clutch all the way down and took two hands to push it into gear and every now and then it would kick out randomly. God help you if your funny bone got hit in the process....

Both auto and manual transmissions get great reviews.. I will opt for the manual unless the auto transmission is proven to be able to handle major power modifications and abusive driving.
The auto is based on the IS-f so it shouldn't be weaksauce unlike the auto trannys of the v6 accords. |

I have had both autos and sticks over the years and I do not have a die-hard preference either way.
In some cars, the auto is so bad that you want to blow your brains out while you're driving it. In other cars, the stick is so bad you want to jump off a building when driving it (350z). Stick is usually more fun, but auto is more convenient. In the FR-S, you don't really seem to be as penalized if you choose the auto over the stick as with other cars. It will all come down to the test drive (and whether or not I can convince the wife to let me buy a car that she can't drive [if I get stick])

![]() 6th gen accord autos fail left and right. Although I heard it's because of improper usage, AKA using D4 instead of D3 in the streets instead of the highway. Mine hasn't crapped out yet

I'd pick the 6 MT however I've driven the Lexus is-f and if this auto-box is based on that one, then let me say that it will not disappoint and could potentially set faster lap times...

The auto make have good reviews...but for me it will always be stick until the dual clutch trannies take over. Automatics always sap some power unlike the single or dual clutch trannies. But we will have to see both trannies on the dyno...

automatic FR-S? What are you, 70? Buy a tC and leave manly cars to the men. Men with beards and wives who still cook dinner. The S2000 didn't have an auto option, the first generation Miata was like 5% automatics, what's the ratio for the FR-S?
