People on another thread are saying that when they fill up with Ethanol free fuel it stops the crickets. At this point I will try anything.
I found this website showing where Ethanol free fuel can b e found. http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=WA

just venting
I hate this chirp. Mainly.. here's the thing.. I know you all experience this:
You pull up to somewhere (it could be a stoplight or parking lot) People nearby are checking out how awesome our car is, then, after they hear the chirp... the expressions on their face. So embarrassing... Especially when your family member hears it and they're like... isn't your car supposed to be brand new? Why does it sound like its 10 - 20 years old etc... If i pull up and park my car somewhere.. I make sure I turn that shit off right away. lol. Ahh man and the drive thru's are the worst. When my part comes in and they "fix" it...and if the chirp comes back... all hell will break loose.

Then all hell will break loose. I got mine fixed while it was at the dealer for scheduled maintenance and the chirps came back within 400 miles. Ethanol Free gas works to get rid of them, but the added cost of that in my area is not worth it. We just have to deal with a new sports car sounding like a 1980's Buick until the pump is redesigned.

I agree it's silly but he's completely within his rights to lemon law over repeated repairs for the same issue. It also reinforces to the manufacturers that fixing this will make a lot of people happy. 12/12 build date, 11k miles, original pump, 91 E10 cheapo gas, crickets quieter than ever. I'm convinced the pump goes through a break in period. I've been driving rigorously in 110+ heat (nowhere near track conditions, just twisty back roads) so don't tell me it's the heat. |

I don't agree about the break in for the pump though. Mine started to chirp when I got bad gas at the border of NC/VA around 23k miles. I didn't have a single chirp prior to that, and I run either 92 or 93 octane with 10% ethanol. My valve train let go around 27k (doubt its related), but they replaced the pump when they replaced the LH head. The crickets are quiet now, but I fully expect it to begin chirping again before 30k. Fair, just idle speculation. I know I'm not the only one with crickets that went quiet around 10k.

I still have them from time to time, but I barely notice them anymore, unless I am in a drive-through or between a couple of mountain-like SUVs.
Frankly, at this point I am willing to wait it out like some of the other owners have here to see if my crickets die out, as opposed to mashing the reset button and apparently guaranteeing they will be back again. |

I have gone as far to try ethanol free gas I found at a station here. http://pure-gas.org/ and I still have the Chirp, three pumps later and a concession from Scion for 300.00 and it is what it is.
