People on another thread are saying that when they fill up with Ethanol free fuel it stops the crickets. At this point I will try anything.
I found this website showing where Ethanol free fuel can b e found.

This is true. I went a few miles out of my way and filled the tank and no more crickets. I even was half full when I filled up with the ethanol free.

But I'll be the 1st guy that drives by laughing when your car is broke on the side of the road/track cause you listened to a service writer who knows squat about the noise you heard.
Enjoy spending lots of time at the shop getting one chirping pump swapped for another. The pumps themselves are the problem, and until they fix the pump nothing will change. Ethanol-free gas seems to be the solution. Has anyone taken one of these damn pumps apart? Does it say "Made in China" on it?

just venting

I hate this chirp. Mainly.. here's the thing.. I know you all experience this:

You pull up to somewhere (it could be a stoplight or parking lot) People nearby are checking out how awesome our car is, then, after they hear the chirp... the expressions on their face. So embarrassing...

Especially when your family member hears it and they're like... isn't your car supposed to be brand new? Why does it sound like its 10 - 20 years old etc...

If i pull up and park my car somewhere.. I make sure I turn that shit off right away. lol. Ahh man and the drive thru's are the worst.

When my part comes in and they "fix" it...and if the chirp comes back... all hell will break loose.

Then all hell will break loose. I got mine fixed while it was at the dealer for scheduled maintenance and the chirps came back within 400 miles. Ethanol Free gas works to get rid of them, but the added cost of that in my area is not worth it. We just have to deal with a new sports car sounding like a 1980's Buick until the pump is redesigned.

I went by my local Subaru dealer about a month and said "Hey my car has crickets... check your TSB's" So they did, I then told them please take a note of it and when it needs it's first major service they can perform the service then. "Sure thing, just give us a week notice and we'll order the parts in"

It's a non harmful chirp, who really cares? If you requested a loaner car for getting that fixed I'd laugh at you.
Well said, sir. I'm on the same side as you in regards to getting parts replaced. Personally, I don't find it annoying. The noise/sound got more quiet the more miles the car has. I'm going on 11k and I only notice it if I really listen for it. Otherwise, it's almost non-existent.

If a minor annoyance like this is enough for you to want to get rid of the car, please do, because you clearly don't love the car enough. Buy something like a Prius instead, you'll be much happier that way.
You can legally lemon law it if you go in 3 or 4 times (depending on what state) for the leaky taillights. It's not about common sense it's about protecting the consumer from a crap manufacturer (i.e. buy a car for a non-necessary feature, that feature doesn't work, you should get your money back).

I agree it's silly but he's completely within his rights to lemon law over repeated repairs for the same issue. It also reinforces to the manufacturers that fixing this will make a lot of people happy.

12/12 build date, 11k miles, original pump, 91 E10 cheapo gas, crickets quieter than ever. I'm convinced the pump goes through a break in period. I've been driving rigorously in 110+ heat (nowhere near track conditions, just twisty back roads) so don't tell me it's the heat.

I 100% agree with what you said about the lemon law.

I don't agree about the break in for the pump though.

Mine started to chirp when I got bad gas at the border of NC/VA around 23k miles. I didn't have a single chirp prior to that, and I run either 92 or 93 octane with 10% ethanol. My valve train let go around 27k (doubt its related), but they replaced the pump when they replaced the LH head. The crickets are quiet now, but I fully expect it to begin chirping again before 30k.

Fair, just idle speculation. I know I'm not the only one with crickets that went quiet around 10k.

Mine were really loud for a while but around 20k miles they got quiet and much more intermitant then they use to be.

I still have them from time to time, but I barely notice them anymore, unless I am in a drive-through or between a couple of mountain-like SUVs.

Frankly, at this point I am willing to wait it out like some of the other owners have here to see if my crickets die out, as opposed to mashing the reset button and apparently guaranteeing they will be back again.

I have gone as far to try ethanol free gas I found at a station here. http://pure-gas.org/ and I still have the Chirp, three pumps later and a concession from Scion for 300.00 and it is what it is.
