When the second one broke, the Jasper had just been working its way into stores. Had to look for it specifically on the back sticker through the box. Easiest way to spot was power supply: 12.1A vs 14.2A of the old ones.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_36...t_of_revisions

I should also add that both of my 360s were replaced for free without hassle through Best Buy under warranty.
My PS3 never failed in 5 years including 24/7 usage doing F@H for about a year, the only reason I replaced it with a super slim model was cause it was cheaper than buying a new HDD after I filled my old one.

My Xbox died after 2 years with very minimal usage, GPU died, could hear the game and everything but no image.

I'd rather have something reliable than knowing I'm going to have to replace a unit a couple of times during its lifetime...

Yes, everyone on earth is aware of the questionable reliability of early model 360s. After 2008 and the 65nm chips and lower power consumption models, failure rates pretty much disappeared. There were several iterations of hardware upgrades since launch and much learned since then. But we get it, you don't like the xbox.

Also, despite all these failures, it still handily outsold the PS3 in the biggest gaming market on the planet, the US.

Geez.. I don't understand why people get so worked up between XBOX, Playstation, and a gaming PC. I have all them right now, I use all of them for different reasons. I use my XBOX and Playstation for exclusives (I prefer PS3 when it's not an exclusive), I use my PC for DOTA, Civilization, Diablo, and etc. Heck, I even play games on my phone a lot.

A Fanboy isn't really a hardcore gamer, hardcore gamers plays everything without platform preference as long as the content is good.

Is this a reference to PSN getting hacked way more often than XBox Live?

Xbox and PS both use HDD, so they can go bad just as easily as any pc
Possibly you have just had good luck with cheap HDDs. Doesn't take long of looking at the review on Newegg to see how many of those Seagate and Western Digitial drives either show up already broken or stop working in the first few months and mine is on that list too. 1 in 4 being broken is not reliable. Sure, maybe 3/4 people are really happy and think it is a great drive, but those 3 people don't make it a reliable product.

I buy quality hitachi drives, I also have 3 500gb WD drives that are years old... its impossible that with such a high failure rate as you say I have 6 old cheap hdds that have never failed

Not impossible. IF it is a 25% failure rate (which it probably isn't that high) that's a 75% success rate. 75%^6 is 17%. So there is a 1 in 5 (ish) chance that you would have success with 6 cheap drives. Of course, the failure rate of 1 in 4 was an exaggeration. But even 1 in 10 is a bad failure rate. And I am not trying to say the XBox 360 is reliable, I just don't think it is much less reliable than a $600 computer filled which cheap parts.

You're also basing yourself on newegg review... 90% of people who get working drives dont post reviews... so your basing the failure rate on inconsistent data...

Definitely agree there. If you actually look at the Newegg reviews, half of them are about non-working drives. Hey, you have had good luck with cheap HDDs, I have not, fair enough. Neither is empirical and neither proves anything. I think that a cheap gaming computer is just as unreliable as an XBox, you disagree and neither of us can prove shit. Personally I'd rather be in your shoes and have had good luck with my cheap HDD.

I love my gaming PC, and I play it much more than my XBox 360 or my PS3 or my Wii (yes, I own all of them). I still don't agree that the answer to "Which is better, XBox or PS?" is "Just get a PC".

Mostly because people can't seem to shut up about PCs in a thread about consoles.
