Pretty sure the cars a write off given the amount of damage ... but then again there didn't seem to be suspension damage. Tracking your car is very safe if you know your limits and take it easy. It's pretty much common sense when there is really only one turn where there is no runoff and a wall to hit to take it easy ... but for some reason it's the corner that idiots like to try to drift on. There were tons of crazy morons out last night like the idiot who dove in on the inside of turn 3 on me and almost took out my front bumper with his GT3 ... and it's not like I was going slow as I was in the Lotus.

Cheers,

The worst thing is this car will probably end up at a salvage auction, bought for next to nothing and repaired in some shady garage and resold. Then a new member on this board will create a thread about how good of a deal they got on a second hand FR-S.

On another note, like many others in this thread have said. Don't lie to yourself about the amount of skill you have behind the wheel, drive with care.

At least he was at the track when this happened. Lots of people get bs for "street racing" or driving hard in canyons, but at least no one was injured and he was in a controlled environment.

Hope all works out, I know crashing at a track day isn't usually too good for you from an insurance point of view.

There's no grey area, on a track you have zero coverage on your car so you're stuck paying out of pocket for any repairs that are needed from an on track crash. Let's hope it wasn't a lease, pretty hard to return a written off car.

That's when you push your car off the track and then call the insurance company about the crash you had just outside of the track I know some insurance companies cover HPDE days ... but not sure if open lapping qualifies. All I know is there were ALOT of pictures taken and most people probably aren't nice enough to block out the license plate

Cheers,

This is why I don't track my car. Although I would love to.

If the owner is on here, he should do some reading to see if this applies to his situation, this was in 2011 so insurance companies may have changed your policy to cover this now, but even back then people taught it would for sure not be covered:

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...the-track.html

Cliffs: Porsche driver crashes his car at an HPDE, Insurance originally denied his claim, he fought it and won on this:

Quote:
The long and short of it is that they can't deny your claim, provided you're not racing, using timing devices, or observing a start/finish line. Racing is defined in the decision as "vehicles operating at high speed, in close proximity, over a fixed distance; abrupt lane changes; blocking; bold manoeuvres; jockeying for position; and high-risk passing."

dont think the car is a write off at all.... i say about 3-4 g in parts, maybe more.
r/cover is $357
r/quarter panel is $594
trunk $511
end panel $197
r/curtain air bag $582
r/tail lamp $310

really sucks about this guys luck. shit does happen, just glad it wasnt me. hopefully he can get the car fixed, properly, and not a job with corners cut, like was mentioned above, so if someone else buys the car they dont get a unsafe piece of sh!t.

+ exhaust
+ frame straightening
+ general labour & paint

It's over $10k easily all said and done.

so like i said about 3-4g in parts. oem exhaust is another 1677 damn. labour wont be cheap either. just saying the car isnt a write off, if there is 10-15g damage they would probably fix it. to write a car off the damage needs to be more then half the value of the car.

I like to go to TMP a couple of times a year and hope to take my BRZ up in the fall after I'm more accustomed to it. I've seen several cars bite it there too. One of them was an absolutely gorgeous JDM, LHD late model RX-7. Brought tears to my eyes. I'll be puzzyfooting it around that hairpin for sure. I'll need new pads and fluids before going though. That course ate through brake pads in my WRX.

We can't see how much the frame might be crunched between the wheels either... years ago I was rear ended at a pretty low speed, the only obvious damage was some scuffs and minor creases on the rear bumper.

Total cost of repairs was about $6k, the only parts were a new rear bumper insert and bumper cover, the vast majority was time on the frame machine.
