I wouldn't buy a Simpson product unless I absolutely had to (primarily on principle). Simpson (who purchased HANS) can die in a fire along with HANS and the SFI. Also any of the Simpson helmets that are made in China are not anything I would trust my noggin to.

If you're an open cockpit guy then I can see the point of a helmet like the one the OP suggests. If not then a great upper-midrange helmet is the HJC si-12. It's under 3lbs and HJC makes a very comfortable and strong helmet. Absolutely love mine and it was worth every penny.

I also bought the tinted visor and that made racing on sunny days a breeze (pun intended).

imo, anybody who doesnt end up with a pyrotect airflow or the hjc ar10 2 is wasting too much money on a helmet.

because they offer so much. the fit and finish is great. the visibility is great, the pads are removable and washable, they are light weight. i dont know what other things you need from a helmet. you can get them under $300

HJC Si-12 is better than the AR10.. You wasted your money.

Seriously though, how much is your head worth? It is worth spending more money because you don't want a helmet made in china that will crack just by dropping it (like a Simpson Bandit)... then yeah, spend the dough. Some high end helmets are no more safe than their less expensive counterparts but just have more luxurious features (like lightness and size of shell).

The only thing the AR10 has that the SI-12 doesn't is the removable liner. One would think the more expensive HJC helmet would have the removable liner. Having my helmet grow an inch of mold in it over the winter made me wish I had a removable liner. Took me forever to clean it. Still need to dunk it in a bucket of isopropyl alcohol.
