When I buy something, I try to pay as little as possible. But I don't expect charity, and when someone sells something to me, I expect they're looking out for themselves too. Somewhere in between, a deal gets made.

Grow up you bunch of babies. If the mean old salesman is asking for too much money, go somewhere else. If he loses enough sales, he'll adjust his strategy.
Customer service is not necessarily about pricing too much or too low, but how a salesman behaves toward customer. I've been to many dealers, and only Honda, Subie and Lexus dealers in my area know how to deal with customers, even disappointed customers. If a saleman just show a sh*t face to a customer, he/she is not qualified as a good salesman.

Hey, you're right. And if he's unsuccessful, the market will dictate how long he keeps his job. However, my original point was that I just thought it was a little harsh to criticize someone just for BEING a car salesman. It's an over-generalization and it's classless.

I know Marrk's worked at a car dealership so I guess he feels qualified to paint them all with the same brush and tell us how they deserve no sympathy.

Living in Miami, I'm happy to stick it to most car salesman. No matter which dealership you go to they are extremely pushy and think they know more than you. There have only been about 5 salesman that I have come across that I would give my business to only if I deal with them. It's mostly because they are not pushy and are somewhat honest.

I usually buy cars up north in Lakeland/Tampa area. People are just courteous up there.

I don't really blame a salesman for being a salesman. We all work to earn a living. I just don't like how most of them act toward customers. When you drive an old 95' Camry to a Nissan Dealer to look for a 370Z, you expect salesman to come and help you, but the salesman see you as non existence. Would you be happy as a customer who is will to spend 35K on the car? Customers are the one to spend money and to give sales man a living, respect them.

My only complaint is that people cluster all salespeople as being jerks/assholes/etc...
Everyone hates on dealers without really knowing everything that goes on in the background...

Whats even more messed up is the way the general public treats pizza shop workers/delivery drivers... Honestly when was the last time you left a delivery driver a 20% tip? But you give 20% to that waiter or waitress in a restaurant.

The waiter took your order and after someone else made it, walked it over to you... so they deserve 20%

The delivery guy took your order, made your food, got in his car and drove it to you, and he deserves what? $2?

I never knew of a delivery guy that took and order and made it. Every friend that I knew who delivered pizza in HS and college only did that. Even the delivery guys here just deliver. They don't waste time behind the counter.

It's the truth here in my area. I never call delivery, I go to pick up myself as I like driving. I see delivery guy just do the delivery. The one takes order is the one makes pizzas.

the waiter has to deal with me the whole time I'm having my meal, so asking if things are okay, filling my drinks/water, pretty much taking care of the customer for the entire time

a delivery guy comes to my house and give me a pizza and leaves thats the end of our interaction

From the customers POV one person is continuing to provide a service for the entire meal and the other hands you a box

over here delivery guys just drive the pizza to you they don't have to make it or take orders

Umm...Exaclty my point... how would you know what they do while at the shop when all you see them for is 5 minutes to hand you the food?

Also, he spent his gas, put the extra miles on his car which equals to faster service times for oil changes, not to mention the wear and tear on the car itself... (excluding shops that provide vehicles, ie non-mom and pop places)

Not sure what your point is. For full disclosure, are you a car salesman?

I am the Scion Sales Manager at Wellesley Toyota Scion.

My point is that the salespeople do a lot of background stuff that you never see or even know about... yet they are all chastised as being sleazballs cause they are trying to make enough money to pay for thier home, food, etc...
Maybe I am just sore about it cause I know I dont work like some of the horror stories I have heard, but still treated like a dirtbag from the moment I am met...

Just for example sake; I have a customer right now who has called me 5 to 6 times a day for the last 4 days, because he got ****ed around by Kia for the last 3 months...

In this day and age you would think that the average person would treat someone as how they are being treated... If I am being a jerk, then by all means treat me like one, if I am nice, be nice back...

qft. I was weary about car shopping and dreaded the salesman but he was courteous and attentive when we were shopping.
