Scion pure pricing.

I remember when the Celica first came out in 2000, there were couple grand "market adjustment" on those cars. I'm sure the first couple years these cars will be popular if the pricing is right. So the dealers are bound by Toyota to sell them at sticker correct? I can see dealers salivating to get as much profit possible with a new hot car.

It totally depends on if the car is selling well or not.

If the dealer has one that's been sitting on the lot for months, they will work around the sticker price I assure you.

But if they're selling as fast as they can ship them in, they have no reason to come down on their price.

mspeed6 12-15-2011 03:55 PM

No i mean, dealers can't put markups on top of the msrp.

VenomRush 12-15-2011 04:06 PM

that can, and they do... i remember going in to my dads new mazda 3 purchase, we did that whole cash for clunkers crap. they didn't let us use the brand loyalty thing (you know, that thing where if you have a mazda you get a certain amount off) because the sales man clamied, "you know i gotta make some money too"

Scion Pure Pricing is NOT negotiable under any circumstance.

If its higher than the MSRP, call toyota.
If its lower than the MSRP, pray toyota doesn't catch on.

The only way I know of that you can get a lower price is the places that do the MSRP and then an "internet" price.

The internet price is slightly discounted and is due to the fact that they took away a couple of free services. It's great if you don't live in the area and service your car elsewhere. Otherwise, theres no other away around the MSRP and its typically worth it to get the MSRP versus internet.

long as "market adjustment" isn't allowed, I'm good. BMW dealers were selling the 1 series M for 10-30k above. crazy.

Good to know. I plan to customize mine online...

they add on dealer accessories if they want to mark up the car.

Actually this is not how it works...

Scion Pure Pricing just means that the dealer has to sell the car at what they advertise, and that they are all priced the same at that dealer... Toyota doesnt care what that number is...

I could sell a FR-S at $55,000, if I advertise it as such and all of them at my dealership were priced at that price...
Vise Versa, I could sell it at $15,000 as long as I advertise all of them at $15,000...

"Internet" price = in store price = selling price

Dealers that mark up or mark down a Scion is just plain stupid though... Marking them up would mean that the consumer would just skip them and go to the next dealership that sold them at MSRP. Selling them for below MSRP would just be a loss to the dealership... dumb either way...

You sure can. But keep in mind that no options also means no floor mats... most Scion dealers "include" floormats... but they are really just selling you the car + floor mats at about $189 more than just the car...

That's what I plan to do as well. Test drive it to make sure it's what I really want, then go online and build it exactly how I want it since you don't get any real "deals" for buying a car off the lot anyways.

xantonin 12-15-2011 08:57 PM

I'll go in, test drive a few, then buy online.

I wonder if the special/RC or other variants are only available in the dealer lot though?

NikostC 12-15-2011 09:30 PM

Buying online charges you a 750 dollar destination fee, so its a bit more expensive than picking one up from the dealer
Also, interest can still be haggled.
