For me the choice is clear. Based from the weight of an FRS / BRZ, turbo charging can only improve an already great power to weight ratio car. Depending on your hp goal, a usable daily drivable amount should be more than enough.
The way my car maneuvers in traffic is a good indication of what a monster this car would be with say 250 to 300whp. At that level, almost everything that you would encounter on regular basis could not compete with you. (pwr 2 weight) This should ring true unless you regularly encounter Corvettes, Vipers, Mustang SS, Ferraris, etc. The question to ask yourself is "IS THIS MY DD CAR OR DO I LIVE AT THE DRAG STRIP?" I once traded cars for an hour with a buddy. I drove his modded '96 300Z TT. Within that short hour, I had a few challengers. I crushed them with almost no effort...IT TOOK ALL OF THE FUN OUT OF IT! Keep your FRS! God Speed! |

I can save the boring, I mean reasonable cars for when I'm older. On the topic of FRS vs Camaro. Your choice OP. You already sound kinda set on the Camaro, and you will be happier in the car that you personally prefer instead of the car that a bunch of guys on the internet tell you to get. I'll give it to you straight that the Camaro has more power, and the FRS handles better. The Camaro also has a surprisingly plasticy interior, worse than the FRS imo. You are also buying a used $50k car instead of a new $25k car, so there's gonna be a difference in insurance and cost of parts, which will be an issue if the Camaro isn't under warranty anymore. |

If you want an uglier car, bad visibility and terrible blind spots, a car that's much heavier, has an awkward driving position and questionable reliability, then go for it. Trade your FR-S as you wish.
Power is fun for a while, and the sound of a V8 can be intoxicating. But I'll bet that you'll get bored of the Camaro rather quickly. |

![]() Seeing how the FR-S is quote "absolutely perfect" other than power and now it's your a big guy after a few post. Please trade so you will be happy with that "Government Motors Import" called a Camaro.

If the OP is serious about 500hp at the wheels, there are simply cheaper cars out there to achieve it. I don't personally understand the obsession with 500hp because you can rarely use it, and the end result is typically spending a lot of money on gas and speeding tickets.

Yeah, but who cares. Everybody hates motorcycles.... particularly when they are trying to sleep. There is always some tool that has to go 130mph on a local road or has a loud tailpipe. Some antisocial guy with a brain the size of a walnut who likes to make super loud intestinal noises - just to be noticed. A lot of motorcycle riders are regular decent people, but a minority are totally obnoxious child-men.

Well, you asked so here you go.
If I was going to sell my FR-S and buy a different car strictly for power, it would be the Camaro. In fact, it was number 2 on my list when I went with the twins. I ended up with the FR-S because, well, I'm cheap. The Camaro I want(ed) was the ZL1 (if you're going for it go big, I say). Had the FR-S cost $35K instead of $25K I would have ended up with the ZL1. I drove a lot of 2012 Camaros, including renting one for a 300 mile weekend. I never had any more issues seeing out of it then a do with the FR-S. As far as reliability, I know everyone says that GM cars aren't reliable but I've had two go over 250K miles, and for the naysayers have you ever noticed how many old Camaros are still on the road? I see a lot more 70's and 80's GM products still on the road than I do Hondas and Toyotas. Some of it is scale I realize, but when's the last time you saw a Honda CVCC wagon on the road? In the end, I think what you are thinking of doing is a reasonable trade for the purpose you want. Heck, I'd do it. My next car will probably be either a Camaro or Corvette, and I'll buy it used, keeping the FR-S.

Churn through 1 or 2 sets of those gigantic wheels and having 100+ more hp will get real old real quick. I don't mind the look of the Camaro on the outside, but, after sitting in one at a car show, I was completely turned off.
It is going to sound kind of corny, but, a Camaro is just like a Transformer, a big and heavy robot. It is kinda cool, but, the car has a mind of it's own. The FR-S feels more like you are wearing it like Iron Man. It feels like an extension of the man. I would rather be Tony Stark any day. |

Maybe in Ohio.. Here in Vegas, I shit you not we came up to a stop light and at that one stop light there as 4 FRS shitting there.. It's getting hard to just go about daily business with out seeing at least one and up to three or four depending in the side of town.. While they are not quite like the civics, it's a lot more then I expected being produced in "low to moderate" production

I suspect the Twins are never going to reach Civic like proportions, simply because it doesn't have the practical back seats. In certain demographics, sure, until there's a competitor with cred and affordability both it's inevitably going to be hugely popular.
(Given the sales numbers thread, that you see 4 in one place at a time is more likely an anomaly compared to the sheer volume of other cars on the road.) |
