Take into consideration two games, one extra controller, and my local tax rate, we're talking $735 vs $680. Factor in a Eye Toy/Move (to have comparable hardware) and you're practically equal, if not more expensive for a PS4. We can quibble all day about value, but XBO comes with an extra piece of external hardware, the PS4 does not, that's really the only reason for price difference. Plus, developers will be more inclined to take advantage of the hardware if the market share is there. Since nobody bought the original Kinect and PS Move (something like 20% of respective console owners), it's no wonder all the titles were garbage. But knowing that 100% of XBO's come with the Kinect 2 will allow devs to utilize the small and interesting features into every game. Like in Dead Rising 3, where if you physically make a loud noise yourself, the system will hear it and zombies in the game will hear where you are and come after you. That's cool. Back to the beef of the story, I'm sad to see game sharing gone. I was greatly looking forward to only having to buy one copy of a game but still able to co-op with friends. The people have spoken and it's a shame to see the death of such a great and innovative feature.

![]() My only hope is some of those features may remain with digitally downloaded copies, but my hopes are not high. Thanks Sony, for keeping us in the past.

I for one don't want either the eyetoy nor the kinect, so hardware to hardware isn't going to factor in... I have the eye toy for the PS3 and I used it once... and it's been collecting dust ever since... and I'm not one to do ridiculous things like screaming at the TV as I ussually play at night while listening to music. |

While I am still getting the Playstation 4, I applaud Microsoft's decision to get away from all of the DRM and online checks. Before, they had no chance of me buying one. Now, when the price is halved in several years, I'll think about it.

Microsoft has announced this just now... "
Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience. For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future. Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One. You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world. So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means: An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360. Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360. In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions. These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray. We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds. Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year." |

ehh IMO its more like thanks consumers for keeping us in the past.
just like with cars i always come across people with this mentality "old tech with modern flavor"; "give me a 2013 GT-R....but i want it with RB26DETT and the old ATTESTA" "yay 2015 supra! now it just needs a 2JZ" "can't wait for the 2014 BRZ STI...as long as it has the EJ207" The PS4 is kinda the old console with updated hardware. Personally i like the new xboxone services, and im pretty much a xbox fanboi, and their game line up for the new console im sure is going to be killer. The only thing i was upset about with xbox360 was the lack of support trying to get overseas publishers into north america. And the vast majority of local indie developers are actually more interested in OUYA this time around, leaving xbox slightly more focused on big North American title industry. Which is a slight turn off for me. Im pretty excited for the japanese titles coming up, which is likely going to be a PS4 only, and the japanese imports which are not region-locked. I am going to miss dance central, halo, forza.

But we've all been down this path before, over a decade ago with music. Discs still exist today, but almost all of the traffic for music comes from iTunes or other various digital sources. Ironically iTunes, and most of Apples products are some of the most closed and DRM-filled products on the planet, yet have been so ridiculously popular they are planted as household names. Even for people who know nothing about technology. Honestly, it was just a troll-fest campaign that snowballed out of control. Sony happily and shamelessly fanned the flames with their press conference. They kicked MS in the ribs, twisted the knife, and had just about everyone on the internet on their side. It was about as bad as many of the Obama/Romney ads last year.... and it's hard NOT to cave to that kind of negative PR campaign. The ironic thing is that most of the trolling and complaining about features were by people who probably would have never bought the console to begin with (kind of like many in this thread) and probably would have never been personally affected by the "limitations" since most of us have plenty of internet (or we wouldn't be bitching on forums all day), renting could be accomplished easily through digital distribution through online services (think netflix streaming, but with games), and used games could still be transferred, but it still hurts the game developers in the first place. Blah. The people complained and they got exactly what they wanted: A neutered and technologically primitive system that is at it's core no different than when disc games were introduced 20 years ago.

Regardless, that still misses the main point. DRM exists and its the future of digital based media. Pirated copies and used sales do nothing to help an industry survive and only help in driving up costs and prices.
