The Oldstyle is a coolant overflow tank.
The cans were used to cover a custom over flow tank we made inside of it.
We had to cut out the inside of the cans to make room for a 1.5L coolant over flow tank inside.

The E&J Whiskey bottle is the oil catch can.

Nice! I've been running a Jack Daniel's coolant overflow in my 63 Mercury for years now. A great idea until a cold night + empty bottle met the hot coolant at a meet and exploded under the hood. Made an entrance for sure

If you get pulled over, don't let them look under the hood or you could get charged with having a...open container

Catch can are a waste. Only a foll would use them.

Attach a filter at the oil end and cap off the air intake.

Plain and simple.

For the most part I agree, vented catch cans do a lot of harm in fact. But an air oil separator on the manifold side can be useful.

This is one of those myths that continues to be perpetuated in this industry. Using manifold vacuum to pull blow-by gasses from the crankcase is a good compromise a street car. When a car starts to run positive intake manifold pressures for most of time it's being driven, it's time to find another way to pull those gasses out. Letting them vent to atmosphere is really only an option that should be used on engines that are rebuilt very often due to how fast the oil will be contaminated.

Using a vacuum pump or an exhaust venturi is a much better way to go. And considering the price of some of the catch cans on the market, not much more expensive.

I like the idea. I have only used a beer can as a hood prop on an old pontiac I didn't realize all of the uses beer cans have on cars. Looks like I need to step up my redneck skills lol

would you pass an emission inspection with an exhaust venturi?

I don't know. Emissions is yet another part of the compromises. From what I've read on the subject, it's better to burn the blowby gases and pass them through the catalytic converter then to just vent them. Without researching it, I'd guess that the exhaust venturi would be better for the environment then venting, but any emissions test I know of would be harder to pass with the venturi. If you're worried about emissions I'd say a vacuum pump and inline air oil separator would be best.
