With it it sounds better runs smother and although not huge gains as older cars use to show with intake, you can feel it and net good results. With a good tune it shows better gains.
Today I learned the AEM intake introduces "static".

I bet if you hooked up a voltmeter, fed the MAF 5v with and without the "chip" you would see a simple scaling (unsure of whether it'd be linear or not) of the output voltage...assuming MAFS still use voltage as an output.

I did a horrible job of explaining that. deal with it.

Like others said, a tune is the proper method to fix all the intake issues. You get what you pay for.

So you bought 3 different intakes to test them all out, or are you just guessing based off of what other people have said in here..? I have the Injen and it's running great, not the best it could be obviously w/o a tune but if anything it is not crappy at all....

Perrin, runs perfect without a tune. Runs even better with one.

Don't be scared of removing the front bumper. It's very simple.

Unless the intake is properly designed in the first place, which wouldn't require any re-tuning.

It's pretty simple really. MAF tube ID has to be identical to stock and MAS placement has to provide straight, non-turbulent airflow through the sensor. I built my own intake for my custom turbo XB and it worked perfectly (NO TUNE REQUIRED).

BTW, I'm pretty sure that AEM used a larger ID MAF tube and the "chip" simply adjusts the MAS signal to compensate for this change.
