Reverse Camera Troubleshooting

Pulled the wire, installed the camera and harness, and spliced wiring yesterday. No display when I put the car in reverse, so started troubleshooting today.

A few notes:
1) 2014 FR-S, factory Pioneer head unit
2) Used this camera:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00VUSVM8U?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailp age_o03_s00"]Amazon.com : SallyBest® Waterproof Night Vision High Definition 420TVL Car Rear View Camera Universal Auto Parking Reverse Vehicle Backup Camera with 170 Degree Viewing Angle : Car Electronics[/ame]
3) Adapter harness is this one:
http://www.autoharnesshouse.com/19867.html
4) Trigger wire (also from autoharnesshouse) is run from the pink wire in the driver's side foot well (verified it to only be powered when the car is on and in reverse) to the correct slot on the 28 pin connector on the factory harness.
5) The lead wire from the harness is connected to wiring ran back to the camera.
6) Camera is grounded properly (removed nut from one of the trunk lid bolts and inserted connector/ground wire, reinstalled nut).
7) Composite cable ran from camera back to harness behind head unit.

Used a test light to ensure I had power all the way back to the camera when car is on in and reverse (checked good). Verified there was no power when car was in park (checked good). Used a TV as a monitor to ensure camera was working and full length of composite cable good (daisy chained some cables off the composite cable in the dash from the camera out to a TV). The camera was powered by the car on and in reverse, TV plugged into garage outlet, got image and guidelines from the camera to display on the TV without issue.

It's only when I plug the composite cable into the harness from autoharnesshouse that I get nothing on the head unit. Everything else on the head unit seems to be working fine. Display doesn't flicker or show any signs of the camera being connected. I'm drawing a blank and not sure what else to check (other than pull the harness back out and check it, but if I have to pull it out and find an issue, just going to return it, not fixing someone else's work). I went through the settings on the head unit, switched one setting (something like "display image" to "On" and also switched vehicle type to "FR-S", was showing up as "tC" I believe.

I contacted autoharnesshouse to ask for ideas and they asked if I had the camera powered by the reverse lights (No) or the lead wire from harness (Yes), so the install is correct there. Also said that the reverse wire pin might not be making good contact to the head unit. This was true at first, but I had already found and corrected the issue earlier today found during my troubleshooting. I used some needle nose to grip and insert the pin a bit further. It is holding tight now and since the camera is getting power just fine (as verified by connecting the TV), I don't see this as the issue.

Also, attaching a basic diagram of my installation. Hopefully it's not too basic and makes sense. Also, the diagram doesn't show it, but the harness is grounded as well using factory ground location behind head unit.

Any ideas?

Ground the camera on one of the harness wires nearest the camera. The license plate light NEG - wire should be close.

I used the Autoharnesshouse harness and the reverse trigger wire for my backup camera. Read through this post. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...5&postcount=20

I attached the camera ground wire to the one of the amp bolts in the trunk.

How did you connect the red power wire from the harness relay to the camera's red power wire, solder, butt connector? I used a posi-lock connector. Good connection? I'm assuming you hooked up all the harness connections and the trigger wire correctly. Double check again.

Did you check the harness fuse for continuity? Is the fuse fully seated?

If everything is connected properly you could have a bad harness.

Problem solved.

Spoke with Brian at autoharnesshouse. He sent another harness, one for the 28 pin connector with trigger wire preinstalled. Worked like a charm after installing.

So the issue was the trigger wire wouldn't fully seat in the factory harness. Not sure if it was the harness or connector, I did use some needle nose to jam it in as hard as possible without breaking, but it just didn't go.

Glad to have it resolved though. Also, would recommend autoharnesshouse, great support from them with the issue.
