Adding sensor to ECU

I know that an aftermarket oil pressure sensor can be installed with a standalone oil pressure gauge, but is it possible to add an oil pressure sensor and wire it directly into the ECU so that oil pressure could then be available through the OBDII port using an app like Torque?

If so, how would one go about it?

No. The long and the short of it is that the ECU doesn't have an input or programming to "care" about oil pressure.

However, one could pressure the folks that write torque or other obdII apps to write software that used a wirelessly connected 0-5v logic sensor connected to microcontroller. (So, like a bluetooth arduino with a oil pressure sender connected to it.) It actually wouldn't be to hard for them to develop.

Technically it could be done, though it's complicated. The ECU has a two inputs I know of that are commonly replaced with other devices, a CPC pressure sensor input commonly used for flexfuel sensors and the rear O2 sensor for widebands. There may be a way to get torque to read a specific memory address to pull the data from the ECU where that data is, but I don't know anything about it.

The shorter answer is nobody's done it or bothered to attempt it.

Thanks for the replies. I thought a standalone gauge might be the only practical method of getting an oil pressure readout but wanted to see if wiring it into the ECU was a possibility - guess not.
