Is FR-S oil Synthetic or Conventional?

I'm looking through all the documentation and no where do i see synthetic in the owners manual or the maintenance manual.

I've searched here on this forum and people have reported that the BRZ manually specifically says synthetic but I find no such wording in the FR-S manuals. Page 344 in the manual only states "Toyota genuine motor oil" 0W20 which may or may not be synthetic. I know for a fact Toyota sells conventional "Toyota Genuine Motor Oil" 0W20 because I bought a case of it before for the Toyota Corolla. so not all 0W20 is synthetic

I find it hard to believe that its not synthetic if it's coming out of the same plant as the BRZ if the BRZ uses synthetic oil

So my question is when we take our cars in for service will the dealer use the correct oil? they can easily grab a conventional 0W20 for a corolla and use that instead of synthetic oil.

this is why people change their own oil. I've seen synthetic billed out but regular oil used many times.

With that said, I don't know any dealership that uses OEM oil in the cars when you get an oil or other fluid change in your car.

the main toyota oil is now 0w-20. they carry it in bottles. The scion dealer i went to lets you watch them do the oil change.

Still doesnt make sense that Toyota would want the FR-S to change the oil after 7,500 miles if its synthetic oil. All German Car synthetic oil changes is twice as long. at 10K to 14K miles based on your driving.

Toyota 0w-20 gets a lot of love from BITOG.

7500 miles is because if you drive aggressively, have a lot of short trips, or sit in a lot of traffic (and thus run the engine at very low loads frequently), the oil gets beaten up faster. Toyota/Subaru doesn't know how you drive, so they tell you to change it sooner rather than later just to be safe. No conventional oil is recommended for 7500 miles.

Humm I guess that's why they didn't need to specify synthetic if all 0W-xx is synthetic anyways. At least I coulda sworn it wasn't all synthetic. Maybe I was mistaken 5W20

^this. FYI, I recently bought a case of Toyota 0W20 from my dealer. It clearly says synthetic on the bottles.

German cars also have significantly larger oil pans.

Actually, the NA (not BRZ) subaru's have a 7500 mile interval on conventional oil.

We've done a lot of testing on the Subaru Synthetic oil v. Amsoil v. Motul v. Mobil 1 and found that the Subaru Synthetic is pretty awful as is Mobil 1. The Amsoil, Motul and Redline all had significantly better blackstone tests and also showed less consumption on the Subaru Boxer engines.

This is not a discussion, its synthetic. I find it funny people are making guesses and deductions based on mileage between oil changes. No doubt about it, clearly labeled synthetic, try reading labels guys.

synthetic or not, advanced new technology or not. i will change my oil at 3000 miles on the dot and pay hella money and not care as id rather pay the extra uneeded money on oil than to have my engine run dirty. just me though. oil is cheap insurance.

Yea, apparently the Subaru isn't that great, and a lot of people dislike Mobil 1, but Toyota synthetic supposedly has the lowest cold temperature viscosity out of all the oils on the market and has a very generous amount of antiwear additives.
