My friend's 951 is just a hair faster than my stock-powered BRZ up to highway speeds. After that, especially at 100+, he pulls away. They're certainly made for higher speeds than the BRZ. Oh, and we're in Denver, so turbos really help a lot.

Neat thread

I myself have an 88 944s but it's presently dead after a hose clamp went straight into. Cylinder 1. Ended up buying a conversion kit from Texas performance concepts (better than renegade) after finding a 2002 corvette ls1 from an rx7 swap being parted out.

Loved the feel of the 944 and with ls1 power, an ls6 cam and intake manifold and a 951 lsd transaxle to take the power should be a great sounding n/a machine that has Chevy reliability to replace the obvious issue porsche had with this great concept.

Should be a fun 948 build but gonna throw an sbd turbo on the frs first

The two of these will probably make me forget my other dreams for a lotus Evora 400 or exige s 260.....

Dont have the net worth to own them all nor the garage space....

I was driving home just now and this ultra mint condition red 944 Turbo literally just broke down in bumper to bumper traffic. Immediately I remembered what you wrote lol!

Bought my 16 year old a FR-S. It's dropped about an inch but the driving dynamics is very similar to my 951. I'd say the FR-S is a little more twitchy/nervous than my 951 but they're eerily similar. Both are engaging cars to drive. Note the Porsche, pictured below, is on Koni adjustables and 968 M030 Swaybars.

951 has the optional Leather Sport Seats that I prefer over the FR-S seats however I do really like the Scion's seats a lot.

Both cars have exhaust work done to them. 951 is louder and deeper tone.

951 is not daily driven and yes even a garage kept weekender should have a $1,500 yearly budget for upkeep. It's a 30 year old high strung german sports car and owners should expect the cost of ownership involved with that.

I'm not a Porsche guy. Not a fan of the modern styling nor do I have the finances to entertain the thought of owning an older one. Reminds me of the old saying, if you can't afford to fix it then you can't afford to own it.

That said... good lord what an amazing looking car you posted there.

I realize something light weight and cut price (to compete with the twins) would be out of character for Porsche, but I'm pretty sure they would sell plenty if they brought that shape and look out of retirement, but modernized a little ie drive train, crash safety, tech etc.

I was shocked when I first found out that the 944 was a Porsche. I was really intrigued by the shape and styling of this model. Would love to have one to tinker with if I could afford the Porsche Tax that others have mentioned.

I totally remember your username and your 951 from my Rennlist days. I was IMB951. Had the black '87 944 S then the black '89 951.
