No. What resonators do - they remove/cancel out certain frequencies. They don't change volume/loudness of exhaust. What changes/reduces volume are usually things that reduce exhaust gas energy (including noise) - turbo / cats / muffler.
Problem with resonators - they are of fixed design and work on specific frequencies. If you pair catback with specific resonators with wide combo of aftermarket or stock other exhaust bits, sometimes overall result might be spot on (most probably with stock, with which most probably catback was developed for/with), but off with some other exhaust bits.
So best sure bet would be hearing end result on some car having same exhaust bits as one plans (eg. at some track or twins meet). Or at very least good recording of it.

Fine by me. Just what I was told and cat did reduce rasp for me so in my anecdotal xp it was true for my setup.
I do have resonators too. I got everything I could to get it as quiet as possible. Now it's less of a cop magnet.

Cats help with emissions and justifying your purchase of it, that’s it lol. Resonators do help with sound level, maybe 1-2 dB. Mufflers are designed to lower dB levels, resonators are for rasp. Then you have straight through mufflers which are basically a big ass resonators. Who ever told you resonators are for sound level is on crack. Probably the same guy who sold you a cat.
Ok buddy.

Mufflers muffle. Resonators resonate. Seems fairly obvious what their roles are.

To expand.

Rasp: An unwanted annoying/irritating "resonate" tone.
