Talking about me? I have a D3 Performance kit. I just moved from Houston to Atlanta though.

Hey cf6mech, I'd still like to find out a little mroe about your build. I know you've kept it quiet for obvious reasons, but I've been watching the little info. you've put out here and there.

That is unfortunate, I mentioned this to Don on the day he debuted the setup and he said I was uninformed and that that was very common, even tried to tell me OEM's did it all the time...Im sorry someone else had to learn that lesson for him.

Looks like I will not be having any cat in between the motor and the turbo...

I don't think the cat just spontaneously broke up on its own. Likely it was impacted by pieces of the engine. So whether it was pieces of the cat or pieces of the engine, that turbo was doomed regardless.

Not to derail the original thread too much, but I just had to chime in regarding catalytic converters before the turbocharger. It is a TERRIBLE idea. So terrible, in fact, that Subaru STOPPED doing that after the 2003 WRX. @cf6mech's motor is fine, but his turbocharger is destroyed due to debris from the catalytic converter. At least that's how I understood the situation.

That said, please think twice about putting a turbocharger right after the stock header. ESPECIALLY that cat which isn't rated to withstand the kinds of heat a turbocharged setup produces.

Ok, I was confused. I thought it was FRS300 that lost the aforementioned turbo (I still expect he did).

The up-pipe cat in the WRX wasn't really an issue. Lots of people were worried about it, but I don't recall any actually coming apart. The cat Subaru used was designed with a metal structure that didn't break apart. Check out any thread about gutting the up-pipe and it's pretty clear that unlike conventional cats which can be fractured and removed, it has to be dug out.

Subaru stopped using them when they went to the 2.5L. Despite the larger displacement, they were able to reduce emissions such that they could remove that cat and gain a little power. The 2.5L WRXs were underrated.
