I tested my camera by pulling out the HU and plugging in the cables to my adaptor I got from svxdc (thanks dude, worked like a charm!). I then dropping the rear seat back and grabbing power from the darker green wire at the plug on the amp.

It only took a couple of mins to pull the HU and I was able to confirm that I was pulling power from the right place.

I installed my Rydeen duo today. I had never wired a car, or installed a cam so it took me about 4 hours total. Thanks to OP for posting detailed pics that helped a lot. I confirm you can see the OEM camera location if you look close enough.

Thanks to David (SVXdc) for the details too.

I love the functionality!

I have about half of the photos I need for a step by step write up... it took me a few more hours than I'd like to admit and as the process dragged on the less pictures got taken. Maybe in a couple of weeks I'll take things back apart so I can get the pics I'm missing.

Of course, I took a few dozen pictures trying to catch the area on the garnish reserved for the OEM camera and NONE of them turned out... but trust us when we say... it's obvious.

I think this is going to be a popular mod on the BRZ especially since the functionality is pretty much there, just need to wire the camera.

When I get my parts together, I'll try to take a bunch of pictures and try to do a start to finish DIY.

There seems to be a lot of people doing this mod, so maybe we could put together a DIY thread with links and best practices/suggestions from the users who've already installed the camera to help out someone new?

Just a thought... thanks again to everyone who's contributed so far.
I agree. A step by step DIY would be nice. I searched this website and didn't see it. I don't want to do it myself. Went to Best Buy yesterday, and the installer said I could buy my own parts and he would install it for $85 plus tax. Great deal, but, I don't think he is thinking it through, like cutting a hole in the rear license plate area, threading the wire through the existing trunk lid harness, wiring it to the speaker amp in the trunk, and whatever challenges there are that I don't know about. From what I've read here, all I need to buy for this mod is a camera (Rydeen or BOYO) and the SVXdc connector. Is that correct? I'm leaning towards the BOYO because they both look good, and it's cheaper and haven't seen any negatives on this thread about it. So, I am thinking that if I can provide him all of the instructions, he can do it without problems and get a better idea of what the install will involve. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have the same vehicle, and I could not see it when I looked today. Are you seeing it from the exterior, or do you mean that once you remove the garnish, you can see this from the inside?

Yes, just the camera, SVXdc connector, tie wraps and some T-taps for the camera power and just fish the cable from the back of the car to the front.

You can see it from the exterior. Just look up to the location of the tag lights, and you will see it to the left in that trunk trim where the camera will be glued to.

Thanks. Your info is appreciated! About what I was thinking was involved. Looked again and still can't see the damn camera location! BTW, just for complete clarification, what are T-taps?

I just ordered the Accele RVC1150. It mounts flush like the Rydeen, but appears to have slightly smaller dimensions and a lower profile. Spec wise, it's wider (170 degrees vs 150 on the Rydeen), and slightly higher resolution.

I'll take pics once i get it installed.

Camera cable goes into one slot. Power cable goes into the other, crimp it and it provides a connection between the camera and the power cable.

Looks good. Appears to be more expensive than the Rydeen or BOGO, tho. Any reason why the Accele is a better choice?

Accele isn't really known for quality. I got the Rydeen ZH07 on eBay for $110 and it looks better than the accele and the mounting hole is smaller. The footprint is like it was made for the BRZ.

Crutchfield had it in stock. I have no experience with it, but thought i'd give it a try. I like that it looks to be a little more low profile than the Rydeen, which is nice, although i do prefer the Rydeen's mounting method.

Here's the Accele:

Here's the Rydeen:

I will try to look through my pics again and see if there is anything that I could use to help indicate the location on that garnish piece. The Rydeen Duo was nearly the same size and shape as the OEM Subaru camera on my wife's Outback, which is why I chose it over the others.

It's been a couple of months since I did the mod, but if I remember correctly, on the garnish, the section the camera is fitted to is raised slightly to fit flush with the front and back edges while the rest of the section is recessed. This section is beside the hole for the left-hand license plate light.

Feeding through the wire connector through the trunk lid was pretty painless until you got to feeding the wire through the boot from the trunk lid to the chassis. It was a bit tedious but just took some patience to draw it through.

Unfortunately my back's been acting up, so I unfortunstely won't be tearing into the car anytime soon to get those pics I need.
