Same thing happened to me. They sending in a new long block to replace my motor next week. Dealership said the only thing they might swap over is the intake. I also had the CEL/LT problem about 1.5 months ago.

And this is why I don't want poorly trained dealer techs replacing cam gears and tearing the motor apart...it almost inevitably needs to a new motor being needed because the tolerances are not correct or some debris gets into the motor during the rebuild at the dealer, and then blamo your motor is done...the stuff you guys are going through is nuts....

Got a call from the dealer yesterday. Parts are backordered until Dec 10. I think I'm gonna just claim lemon law on this. I want an FR-S but I prefer one that runs like it was designed to do.

Keep up posted - interested in how this turns out. Knock on wood - no "real" issues here yet, but still very low on mileage. In a way, you should be thankful that you're encountering this now - my fear is that a lot of us could encounter this as we get close to our 3 year/36k warranty expiration. It really makes me think I'll likely trade it in before that time comes.

No updates to this yet. After speaking with corporate, he suggested I do one of the 3 following:
1. Speak to the management of the dealership directly about a replacement FR-S since my contract is through them, not Scion directly. 2. Start and arbitrary process using this website: http://www.ncdsusa.org/. Apparently this information is also located in the paperwork we all received and should be in our owners manual somewhere (I can't look for it because I dont have my car right now). 3. Contact a Lemon Law attorney, which I've already done and I am told that I am a perfect candidate. My worry with this is the amount of time it will take to resolve this way. I'm also concerned that if I'm refunded my money, I get back my down payment and any payments I've made to date, minus about $850 for the mileage I've driven. What do you guys think is the best option? |

I am awaiting an engine replacement, same mileage 3700. I had the ECU/cam issue 3 days and 197 miles into ownership. I was without the car for 2 weeks then. Mine spun a connecting rod bearing and wreaked other havoc. My service writer said no long block available so they are getting a short block, heads and all the other pieces to make a new engine. They've had it 2 weeks so far and are still waitng on parts.

I think I read on this forum a few weeks back something in regards to doing this, and why it was best to use a long block in certain scenarios. Someone with more engine rebuilding knowledge should answer that. |

If I remember correctly you need to re-read the lemon law.
It is over 30 days repair for the SAME issue. Had to go through this a few years back. So until you hit 31 days on the wait for the engine block, it is a no go. Also, you will be forced to go to arbitration in which they may or may not grant you the lemon law. Most likely not unless it is major issue. Once you hit 31 days you can ask for a new car or else file for lemon law then wait for the arbitrator. |

I would file for lemon law or at least demand a factory assembly long block and extended warranty. |

This is exactly why I contacted the dealership and asked for a new car. I'm supposed to hear back from the managers this afternoon. I'll keep you all updated. |
