With the change up to Street Touring this year, what is everyone's plans?

Any changes with the rules you are excited about?

I have a rant about "big magnet".

My BRZ's first season was 2020 in CS, purchased magnets. Then got moved to DS in 2021/2022 I believe. New class letters only.

Moved to STX in 2024 and Autocross Digits changed their silver, so my new class needed new numbers to go with it. Had to do two shipments.

Now we're in DST and the silver color changed... again... to be gradient, so they don't match the numbers just bought last year, so here I am doing two shipments again.

I've had the car 5 years and been in 4 different classes...

SCCA and big magnet got together and changed classes to make us order more. They change colors slightly year after year so you can't buy just the class if you're OCD like me. #StandUpAgainstBigMagnet

Are there actually changes with the rules? I thought it was mainly renaming classes and nothing really changes for us.

I am excited I won't be being bumped to STR in our local region against the ND. We have a quick national level car and two good drivers. ND went to AST as it probably should be. It's damn quick. I can totally go against CST cars now (with the DST PAX).

I've had Yoks for 3 seasons (2 in DS, 1 in STX), but I'm going with the RE71RS this year. Arriving today actually. I feel like the Yoks work best on concrete and all our surfaces are asphalt. They also get one peaky run and the other 5 might be "off". Oddly for me they worked better in DS trim than STX, which goes against the whole "needs camber" thing.

I ran on the RE71RS once in a DS gen 2 and threw down 3rd in PAX with one run... they were that easy to drive and just worked. Excited to try them on my STX setup.

It's more likely that no one considered this at all. If the SCCA sold magnets then maybe but they don't so I would say it's really that they didn't consider it at all.

Anyone try the P1s yet?

I bought a set but haven't even scrubbed them. I'm signed up for both Vegas Prosolo events but I will probably take a052s since I don't really want to scrub and try a new tire on the fly, and the car seems to work fine on yoks.

Reading that the p1 takes less camber than the a052 as well, though again, there's not really enough data to tell.

Also, ranting a bit: I hated having to buy the p1 since I already had bought tires for the year, and don't love this whole process. Also weird that they didn't figure out Tire Rack distribution, and surprised TR didn't put its finger on the scale in the decision making to allow it this year.

I think testing data for our cars is forthcoming soon, but I got no answer from the FB group a couple weeks ago. I'll be on Yoks for at least the TX pro this weekend, but a few well known ST cars/drivers will be on the P1 this weekend and we can infer the tire's performance from there. For me, I think I'll wait til the 255's arrive at least since I like the extra MPH for my 4.3 car.

I will post up my experiences when I have them.

One of our small local clubs lost its lot a couple weeks ago and their events were the ones where we could easily get 30-40 runs in a weekend which was great for test and tuning. Sigh.

I ran the Stones last year, and while I love the way they drive, I found they were just a bit down on outright pace, and the rear grip was lacking. At least compared to the Yoks.


This year I'm trying out the Mullet, Stones in the front and Yoks on the rear, for the Atlanta Pro and Charlotte tour, and deciding what to do after that for the Bristol tour and Nats. I've done 2 events at Charlotte on the setup, and I'm fairly pleased with it, and the results have been at least on par with last year on the Stones. There is certainly a learning curve with them. The Yoks accept more slip angle than the Stones, and need to be more comfortable with the back end moving around some especially on corner entry. It's an interesting feeling where the back end slides around more, but has more ultimate grip.

We have a functional diff now, so that's a plus. Chunks fell out before nats last year but we didn't really have an option.

Hoping that fixes some weird inconsistent performance!

Preferences come to play, but ultimately the fastest times seem to be when the back end is at a slight slip angle.

Preference-wise, I drove a WRX for my first ~8 years autocrossing, so when the rear started coming out with that, you did something wrong. "Fast" meant planted and some understeer coming out of corners. With with my BRZ, 5 years later, I'm still not fully comfortable with a setup that's even a hair oversteery. Even with Yoks, the rear was always very planted for me, so maybe having the Stones and better overall driving and feel, with less rear grip might be better for me. We'll see.

Sidenote: Got the car out yesterday and adjusted the swaybar softer (from about +75% over stock to +25%). I felt last year there was too much understeer and it might have been the swaybar. I last year I had the ride height set way too high initially, so I roasted our test and tune dealing with that and never really dialed in the damper settings or played with the swaybar.

The aim this year is to have the softer front swaybar, RE's, and actually use the test and tune to dial in the damper settings a bit. I found softer front, stiffer rear helped, but might have been overly compensating for the swaybar being too stiff. I'm new to all the adjustments - I ran the car in CS/DS for ~4 years. Also, in like 15 years of autocross I've only had an adjustable suspension for 1 lol.

I'm also adding some 3M clear bra/tap to the fender areas where they get peppered with rocks. There are quite a bit of chips that need touched up I don't want rusting from the +35 wheels and 245's.

I don't think there was much major, I know there was some small items. Not sure exactly what from memory. Its been 2 years since a new thread started, so figured it was good

-Swap to 400lb springs
-Buy an intake, possibly change header and pay for a tune
-----I wish Flex Fuel kits were legal to leave installed and just show your ethanol %
-Diff? Not sure on this, car is multipurpose track and auto-x.

-Fog light delete?
