For the first time in quite a while, I'm excited to work on my car this weekend.

A local is helping me swap the plugs and flush the auto tranny. I could have waited but no time in between school and work in the near future.

good luck!

i've learned that i love the concept of working on cars. but the reality isn't as much fun. like last night, i spent 5 hours attempting to replace a single leaf spring shackle. i used every set of tools i had.

but now i'm proud that i succeeded.

You have to make peace with buying tools on a regular basis. Then it's not so bad.

it's not the tools that bother me- i have a tool addiction. it's the time suck and the actual work that tends to get to me.

I was doing about that just as I crossed the bridge this afternoon. Didn't get pulled over, though.

Well leaf spring work is not up there in my top ten favourite car projects at any time. Five hours for a shackle isn’t bad at all. Especially if you didn’t have to break out the torches.
Edit: Hum beat me to the torch punch.

I did it most of the way to work this morning and about half the traffic (mostly pickups) passed me anyway. The speed limit was 60.

I learned years ago that instead of looking forward to the end, I focus on treating each step as its own mini project, the whole thing becomes way more relaxing and rewarding.

It helps to have a backup vehicle so there's never a crisis.

It opens up just at the North side of the bridge because half the people peel off to hwy 14. If I get lucky with my rhythm, I can slingshot around the slowpokes in the left two lanes just as the hole forms in the right.
