Any way to turn on an audible chime for the TPMS warning light?

I leave my summers with TPMS in the garage. The car in winter reads those from about 10 feet away and the TPMS won't come on until 22 miles later. I agree the low profile tires hide low pressures, so I check them regularly.

You paid for it already, It cost $0 to keep/maintain it. Now if you said you had a defective transmitter and did not want to purchase a new one I could almost see your point. You can not visually check pressure on low profile performance tires.

I only have safety no emissions. There also can't be any active CEL's and it has to be at least 75 miles since any codes have been thrown. This is why my 06 Durango is about to go past it's inspection, I can't get the light to stay off more than about 60 miles for a tank vent solenoid that doesn't want to read right.

A tank vent solenoid doesn't "read", it's a valve that opens and closes, it has no built in feedback circuit, the PCM will come to the conclusion that the system isn't air tight with its leak detection strategy.

I assume you've already gone through the phase of throwing parts at it and that it has a new vent solenoid and is still throwing a leak code? I've seen quite a few of those chrysler fuel pump units break at the lock ring and leak vapors from the top of the tank.

While I absolutely agree with you, I need to point out it is not $0 cost. The batteries in the sensors have a life, and on most cars you have to replace the entire sensor.

I have to do that the next time I get the tires changed on my '04 Suburban. At least one of the sensors is out. They are about $50 for a set, so not exactly expensive, but not exactly free either.

Fortunately, the Suburban just shows it on the info screen, you press a button and it goes away. It's not a constant light.

We are on the same page. My point was until it breaks it is 100% paid for and free. When it breaks and you do not want the light on and unwilling to pay do the ghetto black tape method.

Yup and actually it's an evap code. Good call on the lock ring/seal. Is that something I can check easily? Can I reach or at least see where that lock ring is?

Not easily. I usually find them with an evap tester hooked up at the purge solenoid and a super sensitive microphone (snap-on sonic check) because I can never get eyes on.

I don’t believe there is a factory option to turn on an audible chime with the TPMS light, but I recall seeing a DIY to add auto door locking when the car reached a certain speed, and this was all done with an Arduino interfacing with the OBD port. so to answer your question: yes I think you could make it happen, and pretty cheaply too but it all depends how much effort you want to put in. it would take some time to figure out the specific canbus protocols for the tpms indicator and door chime, then programming the code to make it all work.

What money are you spending on "TPMS maintenance?" At least for the first 5 or 6 years until the batteries in the sensors die? Arguably, you wasted more money going out of your way to disable everything, since you've basically disabled a system you already paid for when you purchased the vehicle...

i don't like it, i didn't need it, and cutting it out didn't do anything harmful. so i cut it out. don't get me started on reverse camera's. i would have crank windows if i could on the car. and i'm still debating about deleting the a/c.

i didn't get the car because it was new and nice, i got it because it was cheaper in the long run than rebuilding a rusty drift missile.

now if you'll excuse me, there's some damn kids on my lawn that didn't learn their lesson last time
