As these get done it would be great if we could have a separate thread (maybe a sticky?) where we can post our experience with the repairs..good or bad.

This recall actually makes me feel grateful my '13 BRZ got t-boned (and totaled) last month . Especially since I've been revving to 8K rpm the past 4 years & 65K miles. Makes me wonder how much more punishment the 'defective' valves springs could handle?
I'd do it all over again if I could. But maybe I'll buy a '15 & up BRZ this time around. |

Maybe the requirement is to have refrigerant at the ready for contingency.

I have a question, are the cam subassemblies coming off or are they cheating and removing cam caps to get the cams off?

keep in mind that technicians may deviate from the published technical instructions to save time, so for example, the swaybar/endlinks may not get touched at all |

Okay so they are contradicting the original service manual which specifically says NOT to remove the caps before removing the subassembly for risk of warping the head. They must have come up with new untorquing steps to allow them to remove the caps without removing the subassembly first without causing warpage. This would be a HUGE time saver.
Thinking about this some more, this would make valve lash corrections much easier because you don't have to clean up and reapply packing seal other than the little bit that is on the caps and valve cover. At some point this revision to the instructions needs to go public. @n0thing, do you know if these instructions are on TIS yet? Last edited by ermax; 12-21-2018 at 10:06 AM. |

@ermax as in regular shop manual for camshaft removal? it still shows removal of cam sub-assembly first, then caps

Somebody really needs to post the TSB instructions!
If anybody has them but does not want to be linked to them just PM them to me and I will do it. If they have been posted and I missed them I would truly appreciate a pointer.
