http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102810 But then in the other link earlier in this thread it seems like it's a lot more complex (need to have the ECM be neutralized before taking off of donor car, etc.). http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95320 So now I'm very confused on the exact procedure to follow. I have a 2013 FRS without the push start system, but it does have the buttons on the fob that communicates with the car to open doors and trunk, etc. Can you comment on this please? Thanks for all the wisdom shared on this topic in this thread and others!! Last edited by Jamestl; 02-21-2018 at 12:35 PM. |

I did this months ago! But I recall it was if you looked up your VIN and found the exact ECM that corresponding with it, it was plug&play. But let's say you find a used one for the same model/year/trim/etc, you need to do the procedure to get it to work with your car.

I saw the thread, and referenced it in my earlier question to Steve, as I wasn't sure whether it was as the procedure as you referenced above, or if there are other steps to ensure the security system isn't tripped. Then you mentioned that as long as it's "proper" ECM it's plug and play. It seems that you got a new ECM from the dealer as your car was under warranty, so I'm just wondering whether my question is relevant for you (since you did not replace the ECM with a used one from another donor car). Makes sense? |

The ECM I replaced in mine I purchased from a dealer (not under warranty), and installed myself. Literally just plug&play. Does that help? |

The issue I'm trying to avoid is in this thread, which seems to indicate a far more comprehensive procedure for using a used ECM (vs. your new one), hence my question to Steve. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95320 |

I had this DTC pop up two days ago & I dropped it off at the Toyota dealer I originally purchased the car from. I also provided them the Subaru TSB for additional insight on troubleshooting.
They called me back 8hrs later to say the ECU was corrupt, so I'll be getting a new one. My question is, will I be receiving a 2015+ ECU or some refurbish 2013 unit? Lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

no need to "neutralise" ecu or to change vin to get car to start. you will need to flash in correct calibration into ecu (depending on car year and auto manual) if its different and you will need to loop pins 4 and 13 for 30 minutes each time you swap a ecu. just read out your current ecu calibration for example like ZA1JB01C and flash that into new ECU. that doesn't change for key start or keyless the ecu doesn't handle immobiliser or key fobs that's done in immobiliser module. you just need to get new ecu to talk to immobiliser, hence the 30 minute loop of pins 4-13. |
