Will BRZ survive 250hp with stock engine?
Hi there, my first post, i'm Roman, live in Moscow, Russia, driving GT86 Aero w/stick.
Car is much more fun than my ex - STI'05. Straight line performance of course not so satisfying. Stock sti' acceleration was totally enough for me, so here's the question. Will the engine survive if i install 250hp turbokit? Oil cooler and front brakes as well of course, but will engine survive? Heard a lot of stories about blown stock engines, I bought it with 30k miles on the odometer (now it's 32k) and the engine was already rebuilt, so not i'm sitting on a powder barrel. How painful is it for engine to install bolton turbokit (like Greddy) with this little overpower? Will it run at least 30k miles more? |

depends on tune. 250 is very conservative for the greddy kit.
I ran 20k Miles on greddy's t620z turbo pushing 11lbs with no issues (~290-300whp)

with 290-300 imho also won't hurt to upgrade gearbox & clutch, if long term use considered. 250 sounds more reasonable .. but then for modest boost i'd probably prefer supercharger to turbo, for easier to control power delivery.

But yes if you do it right and conservative 250 is vary achievable just have someone you trust put it in.

12.5:1 compression is high for forced induction but 250whp is safe enough or Edelbrock wouldn’t warranty their SC kit.

It won't survive 200 hp with the wrong driver.

Roman,
Welcome to the club! I've been to Moscow a few times. It's a beautiful city. To your question, yes the car can survive 250whp. I have had a turbo installed on my car for over 60k miles with no issues. I am pushing 300whp and drive my car every day. I do not know the GReddy turbo kit details, but I would assume it would need an FMIC. |

The Edelbrock kit has an optional CARB tune included for the CARB assigned pulley. If you get a smaller pulley then you would need a custom tune. |
