That does not account for any out-of-state driving, and you really don't think the gov would trust you, do you?

Oregon probably has a similar story. In the US, any station with more than one employee on duty must provide assistance upon request under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ADA doesn't require it if there's only one employee on duty, but they're strongly encouraged to do so. Many stations have call buttons on the pumps where you can ask the attendant to come out and pump your gas for you, and most of them will do it unless they're really busy. It's easy enough for old people to find stations that are either large enough to have multiple employees or small enough not to be too busy. |

A large number of stations have said they won't do self service, so all the panic is not required.

Anybody who has decided to make a "career" out of pumping gas should already be looking for other work, even if the station says they'll keep him on. Panic is not required because pumping your own gas is an idiotic thing to panic over. What do they think people do in the 48 other states that pump their own gas? |

I'm getting older and am seeing service disappearing rapidly. I often wonder what it will be like in 20 years when I'm elderly. I don't think I will like it very much. There's the possibility I will never have to leave my home though. Just order everything "online"

I'm sure there are some around the less populated areas here still. The wife and I took a very long trip through the southern states a few years ago without hitting a major city. We hit 18 states in total. We saw many full serve stations and everyone was extremely nice. It was a bit of a shocker for them to see CDN plates.

Almost every Sunday, in the late 1950's, I would work at my Uncles Chevrolet dealership and gas station. The picture is an actual picture ...... except the gas pumps are gone that were in front. I would pump gas when someone drove up, and the bell rang, and wash cars (on a wash area behind the large glass window) between gas customers and detail new cars in that circular area, if things were really slow. Yep, $1.00 per hour and happy to get the work ....... beat the heck out of baling hay ..... ![]() Gas was 31 cents per gallon, the cokes in the machine were 5 cents and cigarettes, out of the machine, were a quarter a pack. humfrz |

And "panic" is exactly what some of the people who think they all of a sudden have to pump their own gas are feeling. It's comical. |

I'm telling you, it's all for show. People may talk a good game, but when the tough talkers see other stations keeping more profit by getting rid of their pump attendants, they'll fold like napkins falling off the counter by the hot dog and taquito roller.
