And I would have boosted the fuck out of it once I saw how little grunt it had (and probably blown a motor, and then go through all the joy/horrors I experienced the last time around...). Don't get me wrong -- if the 370Z was as much as a pig as the 350Z (which I am not a fan of -- part of the reason I did all the stuff I did to my old Celica was that I din't want a 350Z -- the 370Z is a MUCH better car all the way around) or if the FR-S came with a more powerful motor, the FR-S would be the preferred choice (I'm still on here for a reason -- it's a very cool car!) However, based on what is available and affordable to me, at this point in time 370Z > FR-S/BRZ. But the whole "jealousy" issue is silly... anyone who has a Z (or any other car of equal or greater value) and would rather have a FR-S/BRZ can probably just go and get one... that was my point. ![]() Quote:
Off the track, it simply won't move through traffic with the same urgency as a car with more torque per ton -- that's just the way it is. If you don't care about that, fine, but I do so... ![]() The FR-S is an amazing car -- but it's chief competitor in overall performance is the MX5, NOT the 370Z. Anyway, I thought you were claiming 370Z owners thought of their cars as exotic superars or something (and if they do, they are pretty silly for so doing...), but the 370Z is certainly not anymore a "cheap" car than the FR-S... that's even sillier. Maybe I misunderstood you. If so, sorry... No. It's "compensation" for lack of a more powerful car. Is the agility of the FR-S meant to compensate for one's terrible clumsiness and awkwardness? Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Last edited by Jordo!; 07-08-2012 at 04:36 AM. |

Keep telling yourself you're not compensating, whatever helps you sleep at night.

It's sort of hypocritical for any performance car enthusiast to pull the "compensation" card on another, when by most accounts any car which is anything besides utilitarian is impractical and therefore in the same boat. So what are you compensating for, since you also drive a fun performance car? |

My comment regarding someone acting like an exotic mostly came from the gentlemen indicating he felt like a businessman driving a Z and a walmart supervisor driving an FR-S. If 7k or so extra on a car makes one feel successful, that's a little unfortunate. That's a paycheck for a week or two of work to a lot of people here. With that said, I still have respect for the Z for what it is, I just don't need to swing my **** around on their forum. |

Personally I would think i might compensating for something if I posted about the gt86's handling superiority hundreds of times on a Nissan board. I understand youve been here a while but people already know your viewpoint on this car. I don't think a 370z is a great car personally. A lot of my opinion is based on small polish issues with the gear box and steering. I also don't like bigger rwd cars. Do I respect that you like yours? Yes. Do I care to hear about a stock vs stock torque/hp spec comparison over and over again? No. I have owned faster cars than your 370z, assuming it isn't turbod, and I still bought a brz because I wanted a small nimble na car this time around. So hearing people that won't get past preaching that this car should have been blown from the factory starts annoying me. If its not thecar for you, move on. Sry for the rant.

Nevertheless, I am still very interested in this car when and if a factory boosted version becomes available so I check in from time to time to look for updates ![]() Anyway, I only posted anything in this thread because the whole "jealousy" comment was completely ridiculous -- not because of one car being better than the other , but simply because anyone who can afford a Z can afford a FR-S/BRZ if they wanted it. Therefore, what's to be jealous about? Now as to the "power junkies", all those guys have already sold their Z and bought a V8 Mustang. I have not, nor do I intend to, because raw power isn't everything to me. What does matter to me? I want my car to have at least 10 hp per lb (ideally to the tire), handle well, brake well, have 2 doors, reasonable reliability, and not be as large as a boat -- the Z does all of that quite capably within my price range, whereas the FR-S clearly misses on one of them. When and if a FR-S (or other car) does all of that the Z may be replaced. |
