This is how a properly designed one works (same design with the new Mercs to this day).

Homie really pulled out an iron LOL

Hah that's cause you had a 328i! Whenever someone tells me they want an e90/92, I recommend the 328 for the lower cost of consumeables and better reliability. Then they see my (2nd) 335i and ask why I dont recommend that. Heh...

The 335 is awesome, but keeping it in shape is much more expensive (wether it be mechanic bills or wrenching time) than a 328. If I wasn't a diehard car guy, I wouldn't bother with them.

Fun fact:
If I had a piece of equipment that moved automatically like that installed in a factory I would have to have it guarded so that it could not be reached or risk a fine up to $100,000 form the MOL(OSHA). Mind you I would also have to have an interlock on the hood so if you opened it the engine stopped running.

Life Pro Tip: the kind of people that care about the brand of automobile you drive, are not the kind of people worth wasting time on.

OP: figure out what kind of car you want before posting again and go test drive one of these cars. I'm sure slimy salesmen will be tripping over each other trying to get your fancy expensive car on trade in, lol. Nobody charges for test drives, it only costs your time and patience.

This car is a dream come true for some owners and a nightmare for others. Based on what you've posted so far I'd guess this isn't the car for you.

Depends on what you want from them.

Most of us here bought this car for the car itself without regard to the brand or how much it might impress other people. The only real way that our cars are a downgrade from a BMW is in the prestige that comes with driving a badge that implies you have money. The fact that the OP considers this a downgrade shows that he's already thinking that way. If that's how he views the car, he'll always be slightly embarrassed to be driving it, because in his mind he'll always think that other people are judging him negatively, and he'll always feel it necessary to justify it.

Therefore, I don't think this is the right car for him. He should buy an expensive car instead.

I really like the 3-series. Great rental cars. I got to drive several of them as loaners while my 550i was in the shop.

100% agree with what I quoted from you.

As for the first sentence, if what you want is to get off or look cool, you STILL shouldn't give a fuck what your preferred gender thinks about your car.

Yea but he also implied that his wallet wouldn't potentially be happy with an used Bimmer.

Maybe he should get an used Lexus instead, and the newer ones only come in automatic so no excuse they are not good cars.

An analogy is a Rolex owner on a Japanese watch forum asking if going to a Grand Seiko is a downgrade, and whether it is still a good watch with the quartz variant.
So the '13 328i new was $37k - $47k car (depending upon options) , versus FR-S / BRZ would be $25k-$28k (base vs Limited BRZ). Far from apples to apples in terms of cost. I'd rather have a Limited BRZ + $10k in my pocket any day ( and I haven't driven the BMW, but I can say that).

Most BMW enthusiasts who are all about the sport of driving , who know what it's like to be driving a machine and having the most visceral / engaging feel of their auto, from all the stories I've heard from Bimmer owners over the last 10 years or so, the large majority say go with a MT: E30 M3 ( '88-'92) , or go with a E46 M3. Period. As of 2007-'08 , BMW body lines greatly changed, it seemed like they were trying to be like Lexus/ Infinity .... something else but having their own distinct style.

As for the watch thing is concerned, Rolex is nice no doubt but do most people want to spend $3-5k on a watch ?! I'm perfectly happy with my Citizen Eco-drive diver watch, that cost me $200 new.

Think about all the times you could have spent an extra $100 , $1000.... $5k , etc on a "upgrade" and/or what you perceived as being a better item. Over the course of 10-20 years over multiple items bought you didn't buy the top tier product but did solid research and bought something for less money. Over the course of that time, that could be a nice $40-75k savings , = thus down payment on a house . I'd rather live in a nice house, then think I own a "nicer" car. Over time most cars simply become consumables , and very few become collectible / asset commodities (i.e. NSX (now that it is 15+ years old) , ae86 , Supra, 240z , 300z(well kept, clean) , E30 /E36 M3, Porsche 911 (different varients over the years, certain models do better then others in terms of resale /desirablity / collectible, ) etc
